Product Overview

LiftMaster 811LM Remote Control and Visor Clip

Image: The LiftMaster 811LM remote control, a black rectangular device with a single button and the LiftMaster logo, shown alongside a silver metal visor clip for vehicle attachment.

The 811LM remote control is a compact, single-button device. It includes a removable visor clip for convenient placement in a vehicle. Internally, it features a circuit board with a battery and a series of DIP switches used for programming.

Setup and Programming

1. Accessing the DIP Switches

  1. Locate the small notch or seam on the side of the remote control casing.
  2. Carefully use a small flat-head screwdriver or a similar tool to gently pry open the remote control casing. The two halves of the casing will separate, revealing the internal circuit board.
  3. Remove the visor clip if it obstructs access to the casing.

2. Setting the DIP Switches

The LiftMaster 811LM remote utilizes 12 DIP switches for programming. These switches must be set to match the corresponding DIP switch settings on your compatible Security+ 2.0 commercial receiver or existing remote control.

  • Observe the DIP switch settings on your existing, working remote or the receiver unit. Each switch can be in an 'ON' (up), 'OFF' (down), or 'MIDDLE' position.
  • Using a small pointed object (e.g., a pen tip or a small screwdriver), carefully adjust each of the 12 DIP switches on your new 811LM remote to precisely match the settings of your existing device.
  • Ensure that each switch is firmly in its intended position (up, down, or middle) to avoid programming errors.

3. Reassembling the Remote

  1. Once the DIP switches are set, carefully align the two halves of the remote control casing.
  2. Press the halves together until they snap securely into place.
  3. Reattach the visor clip if it was removed.

Operation

To operate your LiftMaster 811LM remote control:

  • Point the remote control towards your commercial gate operator or garage door opener.
  • Press the single activation button firmly.
  • The gate or garage door should activate. If it does not, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

The LiftMaster 811LM remote control uses one CR2032 coin cell battery. If the remote's range decreases or it stops responding, the battery may need replacement.

  1. Open the remote control casing as described in the "Accessing the DIP Switches" section.
  2. Locate the CR2032 battery on the circuit board.
  3. Carefully remove the old battery, noting its polarity (positive side up).
  4. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  5. Close the remote control casing securely.
  6. Test the remote control's operation.

Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

Troubleshooting

  • Remote does not work after programming:
    • Verify that all 12 DIP switches on the 811LM remote precisely match the settings on your receiver or existing remote. Even a single incorrect switch can prevent operation.
    • Ensure the battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace the CR2032 battery if necessary.
    • Confirm that your gate operator or garage door opener is a LiftMaster Security+ 2.0 commercial model. This remote is not compatible with residential systems.
  • Reduced operating range:
    • The battery may be low. Replace the CR2032 battery.
    • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the receiver.
  • Remote casing does not close properly:
    • Check that the circuit board and battery are seated correctly within the casing.
    • Ensure no wires or components are pinched.
