3.1. Power On/Off and Basic Operation

To power on the camera, slide the power switch. The camera wakes in approximately 0.8 seconds in QUICK mode.

The camera features an ergonomically angled mode dial for quick selection of shooting modes.

3.2. Lens and Zoom

The FinePix HS30EXR is equipped with a high-quality Fujinon 30x manual optical zoom lens (24-720mm equivalent). The zoom is controlled by twisting the lens barrel for speedy and intuitive adjustment.

For extended reach, the 60x Intelligent Digital Zoom offers an astonishing 1440mm equivalent focal length, minimizing noise and enhancing contrast even at super-telephoto magnification.

A remarkable 1cm Super Macro Mode allows for capturing exquisite detail from very close distances.

3.3. Image Stabilization

The camera features highly effective CMOS-shift and high ISO image stabilization to ensure sharp and clear shots, especially at full 30x zoom, by compensating for camera shake and subject movement.

The Advanced Anti Blur mode uses Multi Frame technology to layer four consecutive high-speed frames into a single, sharp, blur-free image with low noise, even at telephoto settings.

3.4. EXR CMOS Sensor and Modes

The 16-Megapixel BSI (Back Side Illuminated) EXR CMOS sensor offers three primary EXR modes:

  • HR (High Resolution) Mode: Maximizes the full 16-megapixel resolution for fine details in bright conditions.
  • DR (Wide Dynamic Range) Mode: Captures two images simultaneously to produce a single image with enhanced dynamic range, revealing shadow details and preventing highlight washout.
  • SN (High Sensitivity & Low Noise) Mode: Utilizes high-sensitivity to capture smooth textures and natural brightness with minimal noise in low light.

In EXR AUTO mode, the camera automatically recognizes and optimizes white balance, focus, exposure, and other settings across 103 shooting patterns, including motion detection and person detection.

3.5. Viewfinder and LCD Screen

The bright, sharp electronic viewfinder (EVF) boasts 920,000 dots resolution and an expanded 22-degree viewing angle. An "Eye Sensor" automatically switches the view from the LCD when you bring the camera to your eye.

The 3.0-inch, 460,000-dot LCD screen tilts for flexible viewing options (45° downward, 90° upward), making it easy to compose shots from various angles. It also features a high-contrast Sunlight Mode for clear viewing outdoors.

3.6. Manual Controls and Buttons

The camera provides extensive manual controls for advanced users:

  • Manual Exposure Setting (M/A/S/P): Quick selection of automatic and manual exposure settings.
  • Direct Shooting Command Buttons: Conveniently located buttons for ISO, AE (Exposure), AF (Autofocus), AF C/S/M (Single/Continuous/Manual AF), and WB (White Balance).
