1. Product Overview
The Eltako FWZ12-65A is a radio-AC power supply transmission module designed for measuring electrical energy consumption. It accurately measures the power energy by monitoring the current between its input and output terminals. The module then transmits consumption and switching unit data to the Eltako radio grid, enabling integration with building automation systems for visualization and control.
Key features include a maximum current capacity of 65 Amperes and a low standby loss of only 0.5 Watts. It is designed for series assembly on standard DIN-EN 60715 TH35 carry rails, occupying one compartment unit (18 mm wide, 58 mm deep).

2. Safety Instructions
- Installation and maintenance of electrical equipment should only be performed by qualified electricians to prevent electric shock or damage to the device.
- Ensure the main power supply is disconnected before performing any installation, wiring, or maintenance work on the module.
- Observe all local and national electrical codes and regulations during installation.
- The device is designed for indoor use in dry environments. Avoid exposure to moisture, dust, or extreme temperatures.
- This module is not approved for monetary electricity billing in Germany due to the absence of PTB or MID approval. It is intended for internal consumption monitoring and visualization.
3. Installation
3.1 Mounting
The FWZ12-65A module is designed for series assembly. Mount it on a standard DIN-EN 60715 TH35 carry rail. The module occupies one compartment unit, measuring 18 mm in width and 58 mm in depth.
3.2 Wiring
- Connect one outer element with an electricity current up to 65 Amperes.
- The connection current for the module itself is 40 mA.
- If the expected load exceeds 50% of the maximum capacity, maintain a ventilation distance of 1/2 department unit to adjacent mounted devices. The distance piece DS12 can be used for this purpose.
- To enable HT/NT breakage protection, ensure that both the L input and L output terminals are correctly connected.
4. Operation
The FWZ12-65A module continuously measures power energy and transmits data to the Eltako radio grid. Its accuracy class is B (1%).
4.1 Data Transmission Protocol
- A radio telegram is sent within 60 seconds if the measured power has changed by at least 10 percent.
- Any change in the billing distance is transmitted immediately.
- A complete telegram, including counter readings and current power, is sent every 10 minutes.
- Upon automatic turn-on of the supply voltage, an educational frame is sent to allow the associated energy consumption indication device to be inserted or recognized.
- If the L input and L output are connected, an HT/NT breakage protection number is sent every 20 seconds to indicate connection errors.
4.2 Data Evaluation
Data from the FWZ12-65A can be evaluated using Eltako's GFVS software for visualization and control of building radio systems. GFVS-Energy supports up to 100 broadcast modules, while GFVS 3.0 supports up to 250 broadcast modules.
Note that total power consumption below 0.5 watts is not measured or displayed by the module. Consumption data is not stored internally and is immediately available after a power outage.
5. Maintenance
The Eltako FWZ12-65A module is designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. No user-serviceable parts are contained within the device. To ensure optimal performance, keep the module free from dust and debris. Do not attempt to open or repair the unit yourself. For any issues requiring service, contact a qualified electrician or Eltako technical support.
6. Troubleshooting
- No Data Transmission: Verify that the module is correctly powered and all wiring connections (L input, L output, N) are secure. Ensure the Eltako radio grid receiver is within range and properly configured.
- Incorrect Readings: Check that the module is installed correctly in series with the circuit to be measured. Confirm that the load does not exceed the maximum current rating of 65 Amperes. Remember that power consumption below 0.5 watts is not measured.
- Connection Errors (HT/NT): If HT/NT breakage protection is enabled (L input and L output connected), and errors are indicated, inspect the wiring for loose connections or breaks in the L circuit.
If problems persist after checking these points, contact Eltako technical support for further assistance.
