4. Setup and Assembly

The FG-Series features easy-change aluminum ferrules for quick assembly and disassembly.

4.1. Assembling Poles

  1. Take the 6-foot base pole. This pole typically has a rubber end cap on one end.
  2. Identify the aluminum ferrule on the other end of the base pole.
  3. To extend the reach, take the 6-foot extension pole. Align the ferrule of the extension pole with the open end of the base pole.
  4. Push the poles together firmly until the leaf spring locking clip engages, securing the connection. Ensure the connection is solid with minimal wobble.

4.2. Attaching the Saw Head

  1. Take the pole saw head adapter.
  2. Insert the adapter into the open end of the assembled pole (or single pole if not extended) until the locking clip engages.
  3. Attach the 13-inch tri-cut saw blade to the saw head adapter using the provided hardware. Ensure it is securely fastened.

4.3. Attaching the Pruner Head

  1. Insert the fixed pulley bypass pruner head into the open end of the assembled pole until the locking clip engages.
  2. Thread the 20-foot pruning rope through the pulley system on the pruner head. Ensure the rope moves freely and is not tangled.
  3. Securely tie a knot at the end of the rope to prevent it from slipping through the pulley.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Using the Pole Saw

  1. Position the saw blade on the branch you intend to cut. For larger branches, make an undercut first to prevent bark stripping.
  2. Apply moderate pressure and use a steady, back-and-forth motion. The tri-cut blade is designed for efficient cutting on the pull stroke.
  3. Allow the saw to do the work; avoid forcing the blade, which can cause it to bind or damage the branch.
  4. Once the cut is complete, carefully withdraw the saw.

5.2. Using the Bypass Pruner

  1. Position the pruner head around the branch you wish to cut. Ensure the branch is within the 1-1/4 inch cutting capacity.
  2. Pull the pruning rope firmly and steadily to close the pruner blades.
  3. Release the rope to open the blades.
  4. For optimal grip and leverage, consider tying knots or loops in the rope at regular intervals.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the saw blade and pruner head to remove sap, debris, and moisture. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent if necessary. Dry thoroughly.
  • Lubrication: Apply a light lubricant to the pivot points of the pruner head and the saw blade to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust. This can also help prevent the pruner from sticking in the closed position.
  • Blade Sharpening: The tri-cut saw blade can be sharpened with a suitable file. Replace the blade if it becomes dull or damaged beyond sharpening.
  • Pole Inspection: Regularly inspect fiberglass poles for cracks, splinters, or other damage. Replace damaged poles immediately.
  • Rope Inspection: Check the pruning rope for fraying or wear. Replace if necessary to ensure safe operation.
  • Storage: Store the pole saw and pruner in a dry, protected area away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Pruner blades sticking: Apply lubricant to the pivot points and ensure no sap or debris is obstructing the mechanism.
  • Rope detaching from pruner: Re-tie the rope securely to the eyebolt on the pruner head. Ensure knots are tight.
  • Difficulty cutting with saw: Ensure the blade is sharp and clean. Use proper technique, allowing the blade to cut on the pull stroke without excessive force.
  • Poles feel wobbly: Ensure all pole connections are fully engaged and the leaf spring locking clips are secured. Inspect ferrules for damage.
