1. Introduction

4.1 Front Panel

  • POWER Button: Turns the unit on or off.
  • USB Port: Connects USB memory devices for recording and playback.

  • ANALOG INPUT (RCA): Unbalanced stereo analog audio input.
  • ANALOG OUTPUT (RCA): Unbalanced stereo analog audio output.
  • DIGITAL IN (COAXIAL): Coaxial digital audio input.
  • DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL): Coaxial digital audio output.
  • REMOTE (RC-SS2): Port for connecting the optional RC-SS2 direct play remote control.

5. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Tascam SS-R100 recorder:

  1. Rack Mounting (Optional): If rack mounting, secure the unit into a standard 19-inch equipment rack using the provided screws. Ensure proper ventilation around the unit.
  2. Connect Audio Inputs: Connect your audio source to the ANALOG INPUT (RCA) or DIGITAL IN (COAXIAL) jacks on the rear panel.
  3. Connect Audio Outputs: Connect the ANALOG OUTPUT (RCA) or DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL) jacks to your amplifier, mixer, or monitoring system.
  4. Connect Remote Control (Optional): If using the RC-20 direct play remote, connect it to the REMOTE port on the rear panel.
  5. Insert Recording Media: Insert a Compact Flash card, SD/SDHC card, or USB memory device into the appropriate slot on the front panel. Ensure the media is formatted correctly (FAT32 recommended).
  6. Connect Power: Connect the supplied AC power cable to the AC IN port on the rear panel and then to a suitable power outlet.
  7. Power On: Press the POWER button on the front panel to turn on the unit. The LCD display will illuminate.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Recording

  1. Select Media: Use the DEVICE button and navigation controls to select the desired recording media (CF, SD, or USB).
  2. Input Level Adjustment: Adjust the input level from your audio source to ensure it is not too high (clipping) or too low. Monitor levels on the LCD display.
  3. Press RECORD: Press the RECORD button. The unit will enter record-pause mode.
  4. Start Recording: Press the PLAY button to begin recording. The recording indicator will illuminate.
  5. Stop Recording: Press the STOP button to end the recording. The recorded file will be saved to the selected media.

6.2 Basic Playback

  1. Select Media: Use the DEVICE button and navigation controls to select the media containing the desired audio files.
  2. Select Track: Use the navigation buttons to select the track you wish to play.
  3. Press PLAY: Press the PLAY button to start playback.
  4. Adjust Output Level: Adjust the output level using the master output control or your connected amplifier/mixer. For headphone monitoring, use the PHONES level control.
  5. Stop Playback: Press the STOP button to end playback.

6.3 File Management

The SS-R100 allows for basic file management functions such as deleting files and creating folders. Refer to the full owner's manual for detailed instructions on advanced file operations.
