Image: Intenso Memory Case 2.5-inch Slim Portable Hard Drive. This image displays a black version of the hard drive, which is identical in form factor to the white product.
- Connect the USB Cable: Plug the smaller end of the supplied USB 3.0 cable into the USB port on your Intenso Memory Case.
- Connect to Computer: Plug the larger end of the USB 3.0 cable into an available USB 3.0 port on your computer. If a USB 3.0 port is not available, you can use a USB 2.0 port, but data transfer speeds will be slower.
- Power On: The hard drive is bus-powered, meaning it draws power directly from the USB connection. No external power adapter is required. The LED status indicator on the drive will illuminate when connected and powered.
- Initial Recognition: Your operating system (Windows or Mac) should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for the hard drive. This may take a few moments.
- Accessing the Drive:
- Windows: The drive will appear under 'This PC' or 'My Computer' as a new removable disk.
- Mac: The drive icon will appear on your desktop or in Finder under 'Locations'.
- Formatting (Optional): The drive comes pre-formatted for general use. If you wish to reformat the drive for a specific file system (e.g., NTFS for Windows, HFS+ for Mac, or exFAT for cross-platform compatibility), please refer to your operating system's disk management tools. Warning: Formatting will erase all data on the drive.
Operating
Once connected, your Intenso Memory Case functions like any other external storage device.
- Data Transfer: Drag and drop files or folders to and from the drive, or use copy/paste functions. The USB 3.0 interface provides fast data transfer speeds.
- LED Indicator: The LED light indicates activity. A solid light typically means the drive is powered on, while a blinking light indicates data transfer.
- Safe Removal: Always safely eject the hard drive from your operating system before disconnecting the USB cable to prevent data corruption.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the drive. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the drive in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields.
- Physical Protection: While portable, avoid dropping or subjecting the drive to strong impacts, as this can damage the internal components.
- Data Backup: Regularly back up important data stored on the portable hard drive to another location to prevent data loss.
Troubleshooting
- Drive Not Detected:
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the drive and the computer.
- Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
- Test the drive with a different USB cable if available.
- Restart your computer.
- Slow Transfer Speeds:
- Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer for optimal speeds. USB 2.0 ports will result in slower transfers.
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background.
- Check your computer's resource usage (CPU, RAM) during transfer.
- Drive Makes Unusual Noises:
- A clicking or grinding noise may indicate a potential hardware issue. Immediately back up any accessible data and contact support.
- Cannot Write Files (Read-Only):
- Check if the drive is formatted with a file system compatible with write operations on your operating system (e.g., NTFS for Windows, HFS+ for Mac).
- Ensure you have appropriate permissions to write to the drive.
