Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your Yale Real Living Deadbolt:
1. Install the Deadbolt Latch
The Yale Real Living Deadbolt features an adjustable latch to accommodate backsets of either 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches. Ensure the latch spring mechanism faces upward and the latch is in the retracted (unlocked) position. Insert the screws but do not fully tighten them yet.

2. Install the Keypad Escutcheon
Install the exterior keypad escutcheon, ensuring the weather-resistant seal is properly seated. Guide the control wires under the latch that is already assembled on the door. Position the tailpiece to engage the bolt, ensuring the bolt is in the retracted position before sliding the assembly into place.
Video 3: Installing the Keypad Escutcheon (1:51 - 2:20)
3. Install the Interior Mounting Plate
Remove the interior mounting plate from the interior escutcheon. Guide the wire through the cutout in the mounting plate. Ensure the plate is flush and straight on the door before securing it with the bolts. Do not overtighten.
Video 4: Installing the Interior Mounting Plate (2:21 - 3:22)
4. Attach Cable Assembly and Install Interior Escutcheon
Attach the wiring harness to the interior escutcheon, ensuring it is properly seated. Tuck the cable under the plastic guide to keep it clear of the thumb turn shaft assembly. Ensure the thumb turn piece is in the vertical position. Press the interior escutcheon firmly onto the mounting plate and secure it with the two screws inside the battery cover and one screw at the bottom. Test the latch engagement by turning the thumb turn; it should move smoothly.

5. Install the Batteries
Insert the four AA alkaline batteries into the interior escutcheon. Once the batteries are installed, the lock will typically announce "Welcome to Yale Real Living."
Video 6: Installing the Batteries (4:44 - 5:15)
6. Handing the Lock
Ensure the latch bolt is in the unlocked and retracted position. The first time the lock is powered on, it will automatically set the handing for your door swing. The deadbolt latch will extend into the locked position, indicating that the handing process is complete.

Z-Wave Technology Integration
This deadbolt features Z-Wave technology, allowing seamless integration into compatible home automation and security systems such as SmartThings, Alarm.com, Honeywell, ADT, and Wink. Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The deadbolt uses 4 AA alkaline batteries. When the battery level is low, the lock will provide an alert. Replace all four batteries simultaneously with new alkaline batteries to ensure optimal performance. Do not use rechargeable batteries as they may not provide consistent power.
General Care
Clean the keypad and exterior escutcheon with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish and electronic components. Ensure the weather-resistant seal remains intact for protection against outdoor elements.
Troubleshooting
- Lock Not Engaging/Disengaging Smoothly: Ensure the deadbolt latch is correctly aligned with the strike plate on the door frame. Check for any obstructions. If the lock was installed off the door, perform a factory reset and re-hand the lock after installation to ensure proper orientation.
- Poor Battery Life: Ensure you are using new, high-quality alkaline batteries. If using Z-Wave, ensure the wireless communication module is properly paired and configured with your home automation controller. Unpaired modules may continuously search for a network, draining batteries faster.
- Difficulty Changing Codes Remotely: This functionality is dependent on your Z-Wave controller and its integration with the lock. Consult your Z-Wave system's manual for specific instructions on remote code management.
- Keypad Unresponsive: Check battery levels. If batteries are low or depleted, replace them. Ensure the keypad is clean and free from debris.
