1. Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions when using electrical tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Read all instructions carefully before operating this tool.
General Power Tool Safety Warnings
- Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
- Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators.
- Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use safety equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection when appropriate. Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
- Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
Router Specific Safety
- Ensure the router bit is securely tightened in the collet before operation.
- Always hold the router firmly with both hands during operation.
- Keep hands clear of the router bit during operation.
- Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before routing.
- Never start the router with the bit in contact with the workpiece.

3. Setup
Unpacking
Carefully remove the router and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect the tool for any damage that may have occurred during transit. Retain packaging materials for future storage or transport.
Installing Router Bits
- Ensure the router is unplugged from the power source.
- Press and hold the spindle lock button.
- Loosen the collet nut using the provided wrench.
- Insert the router bit into the collet, ensuring at least 3/4 of the shank is seated. Do not bottom out the bit.
- Tighten the collet nut firmly with the wrench while holding the spindle lock.

Adjusting Routing Depth
- With the router unplugged and the bit installed, place the router on a flat surface.
- Loosen the base clamping lever.
- Rotate the depth adjustment ring to raise or lower the motor assembly until the desired bit protrusion is achieved.
- Use the fine adjustment knob for precise depth settings.
- Tighten the base clamping lever to secure the depth setting.
Connecting Dust Extraction
For cleaner operation and improved visibility, connect a suitable dust extraction system to the router's dust port. Ensure the hose is securely attached and does not interfere with the router's movement.
4. Operating Instructions
Powering On/Off
To turn the router ON, push the power switch to the 'ON' position. To turn it OFF, push the switch to the 'OFF' position. The router features a soft start to prevent sudden jolts upon startup.
Speed Selection
Rotate the speed control dial (Figure 3) to select the appropriate RPM for your material and router bit. Lower speeds are generally used for larger diameter bits, harder materials, or when making deeper cuts. Higher speeds are suitable for smaller bits and softer materials.
Routing Techniques
- Edge Routing: For routing edges, ensure the router base is fully supported on the workpiece. Use a fence or guide for straight cuts.
- Direction of Cut: Always feed the router into the workpiece against the rotation of the bit. This provides better control and prevents the router from running away.
- Multiple Passes: For deeper cuts, make several shallow passes rather than one deep pass. This reduces strain on the tool and bit, and improves cut quality.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your DEWALT D26200-QS router.
Cleaning
- Always unplug the tool before cleaning.
- Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from the motor vents and around the collet area.
- Wipe the exterior of the tool with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
Bit Replacement
Replace dull or damaged router bits promptly. Using sharp bits improves cut quality and reduces strain on the motor. Follow the bit installation procedure outlined in Section 3.
Inspection
- Periodically inspect the power cord for damage. If damaged, have it replaced by a qualified service technician.
- Check all screws and fasteners for tightness.
- Ensure the base clamping lever operates smoothly and securely.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Router does not start | No power supply; Faulty switch; Damaged cord | Check power connection; Ensure switch is ON; Inspect cord for damage and replace if necessary. |
| Motor runs, but bit does not rotate | Spindle lock engaged; Collet nut loose | Release spindle lock; Tighten collet nut securely. |
| Poor cut quality / Burning wood | Dull bit; Incorrect speed; Too deep a cut; Incorrect feed rate | Replace bit; Adjust speed; Make shallower passes; Adjust feed rate. |
| Excessive vibration | Bent bit; Loose collet nut; Damaged bearings | Replace bit; Tighten collet nut; Contact service for bearing inspection. |
