3. Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to properly install and activate your ARRIS TM722G modem:
- Prepare for Installation: Before connecting the modem, ensure you have access to a coaxial cable outlet, a power outlet, and an Ethernet cable. If you plan to use the telephony features, have a telephone and telephone cable ready. It is recommended to record the modem's serial number (SN) and MAC addresses (HFC MAC, MTA MAC) located on the label of the unit before proceeding, as your service provider may request this information during activation.
- Connect the Coaxial Cable: Connect one end of a coaxial cable to the cable wall outlet and the other end to the CABLE port on the back of the TM722G modem. Ensure connections are finger-tight.
- Connect the Ethernet Cable: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the ETHERNET port on the back of the modem and the other end to your computer's Ethernet port or to the WAN/Internet port of your wireless router.
- Connect the Telephone (Optional): If using the telephony service, connect your telephone to the TEL 1 port on the back of the modem using a standard telephone cable. If you have a second line, connect it to TEL 2.
- Connect the Power Adapter: Connect the power adapter to the POWER port on the modem and then plug the adapter into a power outlet. The modem will begin its startup sequence.
- Observe Indicator Lights: Allow several minutes for the modem to power on and establish connections. Monitor the indicator lights on the front panel. The Power, DS (Downstream), US (Upstream), Online, and Tel 1/2 lights should become solid green, indicating successful connection. The Link light for Ethernet should also illuminate when connected to a device.
- Activate with Your Service Provider: Contact your cable internet and phone service provider to activate the modem. You will need to provide the modem's serial number and MAC addresses. If you have phone service, you may need to use a cell phone to call for activation, as your landline may not be active yet.

- DS (Downstream): Solid green indicates a successful downstream channel connection. Blinking indicates scanning for a downstream channel.
- US (Upstream): Solid green indicates a successful upstream channel connection. Blinking indicates scanning for an upstream channel.
- Online: Solid green indicates the modem is registered and online with the cable network. Blinking indicates registration in progress.
- Link: Solid green indicates an active Ethernet connection to a device. Blinking indicates data activity.
- Tel 1/2: Solid green indicates the telephone line is active. Blinking indicates an active call.
5. Maintenance
The ARRIS TM722G modem requires minimal maintenance to ensure optimal performance:
- Cleaning: Keep the modem clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid or aerosol cleaners directly on the unit.
- Ventilation: Ensure the modem is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation holes.
- Power Cycling: If you experience connectivity issues, a simple power cycle can often resolve them. Disconnect the power adapter, wait 10-15 seconds, then reconnect it. Allow the modem several minutes to restart and re-establish connections.
- Firmware Updates: Firmware updates are typically managed automatically by your internet service provider. Do not attempt to manually update the firmware unless instructed by your provider.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ARRIS TM722G modem, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the modem and a working electrical outlet. Check if the Power LED is illuminated.
- No Internet Connection:
- Verify that the DS, US, and Online LEDs are solid green. If any are blinking or off, there may be an issue with the cable signal.
- Check all cable connections (coaxial, Ethernet) to ensure they are secure.
- Power cycle the modem (unplug, wait 15 seconds, plug back in).
- If using a router, power cycle the router as well.
- Confirm that your service is active with your internet service provider.
- No Dial Tone/Phone Service:
- Ensure the Tel 1 (and/or Tel 2) LED is solid green.
- Check the telephone cable connection between the phone and the modem.
- Verify that your phone service is active with your provider.
- During initial setup, if you have phone service through your cable provider, you will need to call them for activation. Use a cell phone for this call.
- Slow Internet Speeds:
- Ensure your computer or router is connected directly to the modem via Ethernet for testing.
- Perform a speed test. If speeds are consistently low, contact your internet service provider.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact your internet and phone service provider for further assistance.
