Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your RCA AH640R 400-Watt Power Inverter. This device converts 12V DC power from your vehicle's battery into standard 120V AC household power and also provides a USB charging port. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.
Safety Information
Important Safety Precautions:
- Do not open the inverter casing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
- Keep the inverter away from moisture, water, and flammable materials.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the inverter during operation to prevent overheating.
- Do not exceed the rated wattage of 400W. Overloading can damage the inverter and connected devices.
- Always connect the inverter to a 12V DC power source only.
- Disconnect the inverter from the power source when not in use.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Product Features
The RCA AH640R Power Inverter offers the following features:
- Converts 12V DC automobile power to standard 120V AC home power.
- Provides up to 400W of continuous power for your electronic devices.
- Equipped with two (2) standard 120V AC outlets.
- Includes one (1) USB power outlet for charging compatible mobile devices.
- Comes with a direct battery connection cable for higher power applications.
Setup
The RCA AH640R Power Inverter can be connected in two ways:
1. Using the Cigarette Lighter Adapter (for loads up to 150W)
- Ensure your vehicle's engine is running or the ignition is in the accessory position.
- Insert the inverter's cigarette lighter plug firmly into your vehicle's 12V accessory power socket.
- The inverter is now ready to power devices up to 150 watts. For higher wattage devices (up to 400W), use the direct battery connection.

2. Using the Direct Battery Connection Cable (for loads up to 400W)
- Ensure your vehicle's engine is off.
- Connect the red (+) terminal of the direct battery connection cable to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's battery.
- Connect the black (-) terminal of the direct battery connection cable to the negative (-) terminal of your vehicle's battery.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding terminals on the inverter (red to red, black to black).
- Start your vehicle's engine before operating the inverter to prevent draining the battery.
Operating Instructions
Once the inverter is properly connected to a 12V DC power source:
- Powering AC Devices: Plug your 120V AC device into one of the two AC outlets on the inverter. Ensure the device's power consumption does not exceed 400 watts.
- Charging USB Devices: Plug your USB charging cable into the USB port on the inverter, then connect it to your compatible mobile device.
- The inverter will automatically shut down if overloaded, overheated, or if the input voltage is too low or too high. Disconnect the device, resolve the issue, and reconnect to resume operation.
Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your RCA AH640R Power Inverter:
- Keep the inverter clean and free from dust and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning.
- Ensure ventilation openings are not blocked.
- Store the inverter in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Regularly check all connections for tightness and corrosion.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your power inverter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power output | Loose connection, low battery voltage, overloaded inverter, blown fuse (in vehicle or inverter). | Check all connections. Ensure vehicle battery is charged. Reduce connected load. Check vehicle's accessory socket fuse. Consult a professional for inverter fuse replacement if necessary. |
| Inverter shuts down | Overload, overheating, low/high input voltage. | Reduce connected load. Ensure proper ventilation. Check vehicle battery voltage. Allow inverter to cool down. |
| Fan is noisy | Normal operation under load, or dust accumulation. | The fan operates to cool the unit. If excessively noisy, ensure vents are clear. |
