2. Safety Information

4. Setup

4.1. Power Source

The PL-380 radio can be powered by three (3) AA-sized dry cell batteries or via the USB 5V DC-IN jack.

4.1.1. Battery Installation

To install batteries:

1. Locate the battery compartment (24) on the back of the radio.
2. Open the battery compartment cover.
3. Insert three (3) AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The back of the radio features the battery compartment. Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.

Note: Batteries are not included with the product. If using rechargeable AA batteries, they can be charged via the USB 5V DC-IN jack (19). Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.

4.1.2. USB Power

Connect a standard Mini USB cable to the USB 5V DC-IN jack (19) and plug the other end into a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port. This can power the radio or charge rechargeable batteries.

4.2. Antenna

For optimal reception, especially on FM and Shortwave bands, fully extend the telescopic antenna (20). For MW and LW bands, the radio uses a built-in ferrite bar antenna, so extending the telescopic antenna is not necessary, but positioning the radio for best signal is recommended.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

Press the Power On/Off button (1) to turn the radio on or off.

5.2. Band Selection

• Press the FM/ATS button (4) to select the FM band.
• Press the MW/LW button (5) to cycle between MW and LW bands.
• Press the SW/ATS button (6) to cycle through different Shortwave meter bands.

5.3. Tuning Frequencies

There are several ways to tune to a desired frequency:

• Multifunctional Tuning Knob (21): Rotate the tuning knob on the side of the radio to manually adjust the frequency. The tuning step changes based on rotation speed.
• Direct Frequency Entry: Press the ENTRY button (7), then use the 0-9 Numeric keys (8) to enter the desired frequency, and press ENTRY again to confirm.
• Auto Tuning Storage (ATS): Long press the FM/ATS (4), MW/LW (5), or SW/ATS (6) button for the respective band. The radio will automatically scan and store all receivable stations into memory.
• Easy Tuning Mode (ETM): Press the ETM button (13) for quick scanning and temporary storage of stations within a specific band.
• Scanning: Use the VM/Scan (11) or VF/Scan (12) buttons to scan through frequencies.

5.4. Volume Adjustment

Rotate the Volume knob (23) on the side of the radio to increase or decrease the audio output level.

5.5. Memory Functions

After storing stations using ATS, press the Memory button (9) to recall stored stations. Use the tuning knob or numeric keys to navigate through memory presets.

5.6. Time and Alarm Setting

• Time Setting (16): Press and hold the Time Setting button (16) to enter time setting mode. Use the tuning knob or numeric keys to adjust the time, then press Time Setting again to confirm.
• Alarm Setting (17): Press and hold the ALARM button (17) to enter alarm setting mode. Adjust the alarm time and activate/deactivate the alarm using the tuning knob or numeric keys. Press ALARM again to confirm.

5.7. FM Frequency Step Adjustment

To change the FM frequency step (e.g., between 0.1MHz and 0.01MHz): While the radio is OFF, long press the FM SET key (part of button 4) to cycle through available FM frequency step modes.

5.8. AM IF Bandwidth Selection

Press the AM/BW button (10) to select different Intermediate Frequency (IF) bandwidths for AM reception. This can help improve clarity and reduce interference on MW/LW/SW bands.

5.9. Lock Function

Press the LOCK button (15) to lock all buttons on the radio, preventing accidental changes to settings or frequency. Press it again to unlock.

5.10. Backlight and Snooze

Press the LIGHT/SNOOZE button (14) to activate the display backlight. If an alarm is active, pressing this button will activate the snooze function.

5.11. Earphone Use

Connect 3.5mm stereo earphones to the Earphone jack (18) for private listening. The internal speaker will be muted automatically.

The side panel includes the 3.5mm earphone jack and the USB 5V DC-IN jack for charging or external power.
