  1. Carefully route the cable from the mounted knob through the firewall into the engine bay. Use an existing grommet or drill a new hole and install a new grommet to protect the cable from chafing.

4.4. Connecting to the Carburetor

4.5. Adjustment

  1. With the choke knob fully pushed in (choke off position), ensure the choke plate on the carburetor is completely open. There should be no tension on the cable.
  2. Pull the choke knob out fully (choke on position). The choke plate on the carburetor should now be completely closed. Adjust the cable's attachment point at the carburetor or the cable housing's position until full travel is achieved in both directions without binding.
  3. Test the operation several times to confirm smooth movement and proper choke plate positioning.

5. Operating Instructions

The Edelbrock 8013 Universal Choke Cable provides manual control over your carburetor's choke for improved cold starting and warm-up.

  • To Engage Choke (Cold Start): Pull the choke knob out fully. This will close the choke plate on the carburetor, enriching the fuel mixture for easier cold starting.

  • Lubrication: If the cable operation becomes stiff, a small amount of light lubricant (e.g., silicone spray or dry lubricant) can be applied to the inner wire where it enters the outer casing, and at the carburetor linkage pivot points. Avoid excessive lubrication that could attract dirt.
  • Cleaning: Keep the exposed parts of the cable and knob clean from dirt and grime. A damp cloth is usually sufficient for the knob.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Choke knob is stiff or hard to pull/push. Kinked cable, lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in casing, binding linkage at carburetor. Inspect cable for kinks. Lubricate inner wire. Clean cable path. Check carburetor linkage for free movement.
