i-TTL Flash Control
Nikon's i-TTL (intelligent through-the-lens) metering system ensures consistently accurate flash exposures by sharing critical exposure information with CLS compatible D-SLRs. This system automatically calculates complex lighting requirements for optimal results.
Wireless Flash Control
The SB-910 can operate as a remote unit or a wireless Commander. As a Commander, it can control up to three remote groups (A, B, and C) and an unlimited number of compatible Speedlight units (SB-910, SB-900, SB-700, or SB-R200). Each group can contain any number and mix of these Speedlights.
Illumination Patterns
Choose from three illumination patterns: Standard, Even, and Center-weighted, to suit specific shooting environments and achieve desired light distribution.
Auto Power Zoom
The Speedlight features an expanded auto power zoom range from 17-200mm, automatically adjusting the flash coverage to match the lens's focal length.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the Speedlight, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water. Do not use organic solvents such as paint thinner or benzene. Keep the flash head and sensor window clean for optimal performance.
Storage
When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the Speedlight in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided soft case for protection during storage and transport.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Speedlight overheats and stops firing. | Rapid, continuous firing. | The SB-910 has improved thermal cut-out protection that slows recycling instead of cutting off the flash. Allow the unit to cool down. Reduce the frequency of flashes. |
| Flash does not fire. | Batteries are low or incorrectly inserted. Unit is not securely mounted. Power switch is off. | Replace batteries or ensure correct polarity. Re-mount the Speedlight securely. Turn the power switch to ON. |
| Photos are too dark or too bright. | Incorrect flash mode or exposure compensation. Subject is out of range. | Check flash mode (e.g., i-TTL, Manual). Adjust flash exposure compensation. Ensure subject is within the flash's effective range. |
