Safety Precautions

Setup
Unboxing
Carefully remove the knife from its packaging. Inspect the knife for any visible damage. The package should include the Benchmade Barrage 583 Knife and a reversible pocket clip.
Pocket Clip Adjustment
The Barrage 583 features a reversible pocket clip for ambidextrous carry. To change the clip position:
- Locate the screws securing the pocket clip.
- Using an appropriate Torx driver (not included), carefully remove the screws.
- Re-position the clip to the desired side of the handle.
- Securely fasten the screws, ensuring they are tight but do not overtighten.

Operating Instructions
Opening the Blade (AXIS Assist Mechanism)
The Barrage 583 utilizes the AXIS Assist mechanism for rapid, one-handed blade deployment.
- Hold the knife firmly in one hand.
- Locate the thumb stud on the blade.
- Apply slight pressure to the thumb stud and push outwards. The spring assist will engage, quickly deploying the blade to the fully open and locked position.
- Ensure the blade is fully locked before use.

Closing the Blade
To safely close the blade:
- Locate the AXIS lock bar, typically found on the spine of the handle.
- Pull the AXIS lock bar backward towards the handle butt. This disengages the blade lock.
- Carefully fold the blade back into the handle until it is fully closed. Keep fingers clear of the blade path.
Integrated Safety Lock
The Barrage 583 includes an integrated safety lock to prevent accidental opening or closing. This slider is located on the spine of the knife.
- To engage the safety (lock blade closed or open): Slide the safety mechanism forward.
- To disengage the safety: Slide the safety mechanism backward.
Maintenance and Care
Cleaning
Regular cleaning will ensure the longevity and performance of your knife.
- After each use, especially if exposed to dirt, moisture, or corrosive materials, clean the blade and handle.
- Use a soft cloth and mild soap with water. Avoid harsh chemicals.

Lubrication
