Package Contents
- Targus TGT-BK58T 58-Inch 3-Way Panhead Tripod
- Quick-Release Plate (pre-attached or separate)
- Carrying Case
Setup
1. Unfolding the Tripod
- Remove the tripod from its carrying case.
- Gently spread the tripod legs outwards until they are fully extended or at your desired angle.
- To extend the legs, open the quick-release leg locks on each section. Pull the leg sections to the desired height and then close the quick-release leg locks firmly to secure them.
2. Attaching Your Camera/Camcorder
The tripod features a quick-release plate for easy attachment and detachment of your device.
- Locate the quick-release plate on the panhead. If it's attached, release the locking mechanism (usually a lever or knob) and slide the plate off.
- Screw the quick-release plate onto the tripod mounting thread on the bottom of your camera or camcorder. Ensure it is securely tightened.
- Slide the camera with the attached quick-release plate back into the panhead receiver until it clicks or locks into place. Secure the locking mechanism.

Operating Instructions
1. Adjusting Height and Stability
- Leg Extension: Use the quick-release leg locks to adjust the height of each leg section independently. Ensure all locks are securely fastened before use.
- Center Column: The center column can be raised or lowered for additional height adjustment. Loosen the center column lock knob, adjust the column, and then tighten the knob firmly.
- Bubble Level: Utilize the integrated bubble level on the panhead to ensure your tripod is perfectly level for straight horizons and stable shots. Adjust leg lengths as needed to achieve level.
2. Using the 3-Way Panhead
The 3-way fluid panhead allows for precise adjustments in three directions: pan (horizontal), tilt (vertical), and portrait/landscape orientation.
- Pan Adjustment: Loosen the pan lock knob (usually at the base of the panhead) to rotate the camera horizontally. Tighten to secure.
- Tilt Adjustment: Loosen the tilt lock knob (often on the side of the panhead) to adjust the camera's vertical angle. Tighten to secure.
- Portrait/Landscape Adjustment: A separate knob or lever allows for tilting the camera 90 degrees for portrait orientation. Loosen, adjust, and tighten.
- Pan Handle: Use the pan handle for smooth and controlled movements during video recording or precise framing.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the tripod with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn grime, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Storage: Store the tripod in its carrying case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Lubrication: Moving parts, such as leg locks and panhead mechanisms, generally do not require lubrication. If movement becomes stiff, consult a professional or the manufacturer's support.
- Inspection: Periodically check all screws, knobs, and leg locks to ensure they are tight and functioning correctly. Do not overtighten.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Tripod is unstable. | Leg locks not fully secured; uneven surface; weight limit exceeded. | Ensure all leg locks are firmly closed. Adjust leg lengths to level the tripod using the bubble level. Verify camera/camcorder weight does not exceed 5 pounds. |
| Camera not securely attached. | Quick-release plate not tightened to camera; quick-release plate not locked into panhead. | Ensure the quick-release plate is tightly screwed onto your device. Confirm the quick-release plate is fully inserted and locked into the panhead mechanism. |
| Panhead movement is stiff or loose. | Locking knobs are too tight or too loose; dirt in mechanism. | Adjust the pan and tilt locking knobs to the desired tension. Clean the panhead area. If issues persist, contact support. |
