Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Derale 15708 Remote Filter Mount Kit. This kit is designed to relocate your engine's oil filter to a more accessible location, which can be beneficial for various applications, including those requiring custom engine configurations or easier maintenance access.
Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when working on your vehicle. Ensure the engine is cool before beginning any work. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection. Disconnect the vehicle's battery before installation. Consult a professional mechanic if you are unsure about any steps. Oil can be hot and cause burns. Use proper tools and techniques to avoid injury or damage to components.
Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- Remote Filter Mount Unit
- Mounting Hardware (screws)
- Hose Barbs (brass fittings)
- Threaded Nipple

Installation
- Preparation: Ensure the engine is off and cool. Drain the engine oil and remove the existing oil filter.
- Mounting the Adapter: Install the provided threaded nipple onto the engine block where the original oil filter was located. Then, attach the remote filter adapter to this nipple. Ensure a tight, leak-free seal.
- Selecting a Mounting Location: Choose a suitable location for the remote filter mount. The location should be easily accessible for future oil filter changes, away from moving parts, and protected from road debris. Consider the length of the oil lines required.
- Mounting the Remote Unit: Secure the remote filter mount unit to the chosen location using the provided mounting hardware. The unit features a 3-bolt heavy-duty mounting plate.
- Connecting Oil Lines: Attach appropriate oil-resistant hoses (not included) to the hose barbs on the remote filter mount and the adapter on the engine block. Ensure the "IN" and "OUT" ports are correctly connected according to your engine's oil flow direction. Secure all hose connections with high-quality hose clamps to prevent leaks.
- Installing Oil Filter: Thread a new oil filter onto the remote filter mount. Ensure the filter is compatible with the 3/4-16 inch center thread.
- Refilling Oil: Refill the engine with the manufacturer-recommended amount and type of engine oil.
- Leak Check: Start the engine and immediately check for any oil leaks around the adapter, hoses, and remote filter mount. If leaks are detected, shut off the engine, allow it to cool, and re-tighten connections or replace faulty components.

Operating Instructions
Once installed, the remote filter mount operates as an integral part of your engine's oil lubrication system. No special operating procedures are required beyond standard engine operation. Always ensure the oil filter is securely tightened and there are no leaks before driving.
Maintenance
- Oil Filter Replacement: Replace the oil filter according to your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations or more frequently under severe operating conditions. Ensure to use a compatible oil filter with a 3/4-16 inch center thread.
- Leak Inspection: Periodically inspect all connections (adapter, hoses, remote mount) for any signs of oil leaks, especially after extreme driving conditions or temperature changes.
- Hose Condition: Check the oil hoses for cracks, chafing, or deterioration. Replace hoses immediately if any damage is observed.
- Mounting Security: Verify that the remote filter mount remains securely fastened to its mounting surface.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Oil Leakage | Loose connections, damaged hoses, improper filter installation, faulty O-rings/gaskets. | Tighten all fittings and clamps. Inspect hoses for damage and replace if necessary. Ensure oil filter is correctly threaded and tightened. Check and replace O-rings/gaskets if worn. |
| Low Oil Pressure | Severe oil leak, incorrect oil level, clogged filter, internal engine issue. | Check for and rectify any oil leaks. Verify oil level and add if low. Replace oil filter. If problem persists, consult a mechanic. |
| Vibration/Noise | Loose mounting, hoses rubbing against other components. | Ensure the remote mount is securely fastened. Reroute hoses to prevent contact with other parts, or use protective sleeving. |
