4. Setup

Follow these steps to prepare your Kärcher SE 5.100 for operation:

  1. Assemble the Suction Hose and Pipes: Connect the spray and suction hose to the appliance. Attach the two spray and suction pipes together, then connect them to the hose handle.
  2. Attach the Desired Nozzle: Select the appropriate nozzle (e.g., floor nozzle for carpets, upholstery nozzle for furniture) and attach it to the end of the spray and suction pipes.
  3. Prepare the Fresh Water Tank: Remove the fresh water tank from the appliance. Fill it with clean water and, if performing spray extraction, add the recommended amount of Kärcher carpet cleaner (e.g., RM 519). Do not exceed the maximum fill line.

  1. Insert the Fresh Water Tank: Place the filled fresh water tank back into the appliance, ensuring it is securely seated.
  2. Check Filters: For wet operation, ensure the flat pleated filter is correctly installed. For dry vacuuming, ensure a paper filter bag is inserted and the flat pleated filter is clean.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Textile Cleaning (Spray Extraction)

This mode is ideal for deep cleaning carpets, rugs, and upholstery.

  1. Preparation: Ensure the fresh water tank is filled with water and cleaning agent. Connect the appliance to a power outlet.
  2. Pre-treatment (Optional): For heavily soiled areas, you may pre-spray the surface with cleaning solution and allow it to soak for a few minutes (refer to cleaning agent instructions).
  3. Start Cleaning: Switch on the appliance. Press the spray button on the handle to release cleaning solution onto the surface while simultaneously moving the nozzle slowly over the area.

  1. Extract Solution: Release the spray button and continue to move the nozzle over the wet area to vacuum up the dirty solution. Repeat this process until the extracted water appears clean.

5.2. Wet Suction

The appliance can be used to vacuum up spilled liquids.

  • Ensure the flat pleated filter is installed.
  • Do not use a paper filter bag for wet suction.
  • Use the appropriate nozzle (e.g., wet floor nozzle) and vacuum up the liquid.
  • Empty the dirty water tank when it reaches its maximum capacity.

5.3. Dry Suction

The SE 5.100 can also function as a dry vacuum cleaner.

  • Ensure a paper filter bag is correctly inserted and the flat pleated filter is clean.
  • Attach the dry suction nozzle or other dry vacuum accessories (e.g., crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle).
  • Switch on the appliance and vacuum dry dirt and dust.

  • Empty and Clean Tanks: After each use, empty the dirty water tank and rinse both the fresh and dirty water tanks thoroughly with clean water.
