2. Setup: Setting Your Combination

Your Yale Y150/40/130/1 padlock comes with a factory preset combination, typically 0-0-0-0. You can easily reset this to a personal combination of your choice. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Open the Padlock: Ensure the padlock is currently open. If it's closed, dial the current combination (factory default is 0-0-0-0) and pull up the shackle.
  2. Rotate the Shackle: With the shackle in the open position, rotate it 180 degrees counter-clockwise from its normal locking position.
  3. Press Down the Shackle: While holding the shackle rotated, press it firmly down into the padlock body. It should click into place, as if it were locked, but in the rotated position.
  4. Set Your New Combination: With the shackle pressed down, rotate the dials to your desired new four-digit combination. Choose a memorable but secure sequence.
  5. Release and Return Shackle: Pull the shackle up to release it from the pressed-down position. Then, rotate the shackle back 180 degrees clockwise to its normal open position.
  6. Test the New Combination: Scramble the dials and then dial your new combination. The padlock should now open. If it does not, repeat the steps carefully.

Important: Remember your new combination. There is no master key or override function if you forget it.

3. Operating the Padlock

3.1. Opening the Padlock

  1. Align the four-digit combination dials to your set personal code.
  2. Pull the shackle upwards to release it from the padlock body.

3.2. Closing and Securing the Padlock

  1. With the shackle open, place it through the item you wish to secure.
  2. Push the shackle firmly down into the padlock body until it clicks into place.
  3. Scramble the combination dials to lock the padlock and prevent unauthorized access.

4. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the padlock body and shackle periodically with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Lubrication: For optimal performance, especially in humid environments, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the shackle mechanism and combination dials once or twice a year. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
  • Environmental Exposure: While durable, prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain, freezing temperatures) may affect the padlock's smooth operation. Consider using a protective cover if used outdoors for extended periods.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Padlock will not open with the correct combination:
    • Ensure each dial is precisely aligned with your combination numbers.
    • Verify that you are using the correct combination. If you recently reset it, try both the old and new combinations if unsure.
    • Apply slight pressure to the shackle while dialing the combination, then release and try to open.
  • Shackle is stiff or difficult to push down/pull up:
    • Clean the shackle and the opening in the padlock body.
    • Apply a silicone-based lubricant as described in the Maintenance section.
    • Ensure no foreign objects are obstructing the shackle mechanism.
  • Cannot reset the combination:
    • Ensure the padlock is open with the current combination dialed.
    • Confirm the shackle is rotated exactly 180 degrees counter-clockwise and pressed down firmly before setting new numbers.
    • If the shackle does not press down, check for obstructions or try wiggling it slightly while pressing.
