The Fujifilm FinePix Z90 is a compact digital camera featuring a 14-megapixel CCD sensor, a FUJINON 5x wide-angle optical zoom lens, and a 3-inch resistive touch-screen LCD. It is designed for ease of use, offering features like one-touch 720p HD movie capture and intuitive navigation.

Setup

1. Charging the Battery

The camera uses a Lithium-ion NP-45A rechargeable battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery.

  1. Insert the battery into the supplied charger.
  2. Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Charging is complete when the indicator light turns off (or changes color, depending on charger model).
  4. Remove the charged battery from the charger.

2. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

Ensure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the battery or memory card.

  1. Open the battery/card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the charged NP-45A battery with the correct orientation, ensuring it clicks into place.
  3. Insert an SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card into the card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is facing the correct way.
  4. Close the compartment cover securely.

3. Initial Settings

Upon first power-on, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions using the touch-screen LCD.

Operating the Camera

Turning On/Off

Slide the horizontal lens barrier to the side to turn the camera on. Slide it back to the center to turn the camera off.

Basic Photography

  1. Select a Shooting Mode: The FinePix Z90 features Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO) which intelligently detects the scene type and optimizes settings. You can also select other modes via the touch screen.
  2. Framing the Shot: Use the 3-inch touch-screen LCD to compose your image.
  3. Focusing: The camera features "Tap and Shoot" functionality. Simply tap the desired focal point on the LCD, and the camera will automatically set focus and release the shutter. Alternatively, press the shutter button halfway down to focus, then press fully to take the picture.
  4. Zoom: Use the zoom controls (typically located near the shutter button) to adjust the 5x optical zoom.

Video Recording (720p HD)

The FinePix Z90 supports 720p HD movie capture.

  1. Press the dedicated one-touch movie button (refer to Figure 2 for location).
  2. Recording will begin. Press the movie button again to stop recording.
  3. Videos are saved in MJPEG format.

Playback and Review

To view your photos and videos:

  1. Press the playback button (refer to Figure 2).
  2. Swipe the touch screen to navigate through images and videos.
  3. Tap on a video to play it.
  4. The camera offers various playback features including slideshow, sort, edit, and search.

Advanced Features

  • Digital Image Stabilization: Reduces blur caused by camera shake.
  • Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal: Detects up to 10 faces and corrects red-eye.
  • i-Flash Intelligent Flash: Optimizes flash output for balanced illumination.
  • Motion Panorama Mode: Stitches three consecutive shots to create a panoramic image.
  • Easy Web Uploads: Tag photos/videos for direct upload to Facebook or YouTube when connected to a PC with MyFinePix Studio software.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Camera

  • Camera Body: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water. Do not use organic solvents.
  • Lens: Use a lens blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Avoid touching the lens with your fingers.
  • LCD Screen: Use a soft, dry cloth. For smudges, use a screen cleaner designed for electronics.

Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures.
  • Recharge batteries regularly, even if not fully depleted, to maintain optimal performance.

Storage

When storing the camera for extended periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
