Setup Guide
1. Package Contents
Before you begin, ensure all items are present:
- Clarity XLC3.4+ Cordless Handset
- Clarity XLC3.4+ Base Unit
- AC Power Adapter for Base Unit
- Telephone Line Cord
- 2 AAA Rechargeable Batteries (for Handset)
- Belt Clip (optional attachment for handset)

2. Battery Installation
The handset requires two AAA rechargeable batteries (included).
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the handset.
- Slide the cover downwards to remove it.
- Insert the two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.
- Place the handset on the base unit to charge for at least 16 hours before first use. The "IN USE/CHARGE" light on the base will illuminate.
3. Connecting the Base Unit
Connect the base unit to your telephone line and a power outlet.
- Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the "LINE" jack on the back of the base unit.
- Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into your telephone wall jack.
- Plug the small end of the AC power adapter into the "POWER" jack on the back of the base unit.
- Plug the large end of the AC power adapter into a standard electrical wall outlet.
- Ensure the base unit is placed on a flat, stable surface, away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.

Base Unit Controls and Features

The base unit features a Visual Ringer that flashes during incoming calls, Volume Up/Down buttons for adjusting the ringer loudness, a Silent button to mute the ringer, a Power Button and In Use/Charge Light indicating power status and charging, and a Find button to locate a misplaced handset.
1. Making and Receiving Calls
- To Make a Call:
- Press the TALK button.
- Dial the phone number using the keypad.
- To end the call, press the TALK button again or place the handset back on the base unit.
- To Receive a Call:
- When the phone rings, press the TALK button.
- To end the call, press the TALK button again or place the handset back on the base unit.
2. Adjusting Volume and Amplification
- Handset Earpiece Volume: During a call, use the Volume Control Wheel on the side of the handset to adjust the listening volume.
- Boost Feature: For maximum amplification (up to 50dB), press the BOOST button on the handset during a call. The boost indicator light will illuminate. Press again to deactivate.
- Ringer Volume: On the base unit, use the VOLUME UP/DOWN buttons to adjust the ringer loudness (up to 95dB).
3. Talking Caller ID and Keypad
- Talking Caller ID: When an incoming call is received, the phone will announce the caller's name or number (if available and subscribed to Caller ID service).
- Talking Keypad: As you dial numbers, the phone will audibly announce each digit pressed, aiding in accurate dialing.
4. Phone Book and Memory Functions
- Press the PHONE BOOK button to access your stored contacts.
- Use the MENU/ARROW buttons to navigate through the phone book entries.
- Press TALK to dial a selected entry.
- The MEM button can be used for quick dialing of pre-programmed numbers. Refer to the full manual for programming instructions.
5. Other Call Features
- Speakerphone: During a call, press the SPEAKER button to activate the speakerphone. Press again to return to handset mode.
- Mute: During a call, press the MUTE button to temporarily silence your microphone. The other party will not hear you. Press again to unmute.
- Flash: Use the FLASH button for call waiting or transferring calls, depending on your telephone service.
- Redial/Pause: Press the REDIAL/PAUSE button to redial the last number called. This button can also insert a pause when programming numbers.
6. Power Outage Protection
The Clarity XLC3.4+ base unit includes backup battery capability to ensure limited functionality during a power outage. When power is lost, the handset can still make and receive calls for a limited time using the base unit's backup power.

1. Cleaning Your Phone
To clean your phone, wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Avoid getting moisture into any openings.
2. Battery Care and Replacement
The handset uses rechargeable AAA batteries. Over time, battery performance may decrease. If the handset's talk time or standby time significantly reduces, it may be time to replace the batteries. Use only approved rechargeable AAA batteries. Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.
