Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
Before first use, remove all packaging materials and labels. Wash the carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a clean, damp cloth.
2. Water Filter Installation
Your coffee maker includes a charcoal water filter to remove impurities from the water. Submerge the charcoal water filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes. Insert the filter into the filter holder, then place the filter holder into the water reservoir.
3. First Brew Cycle (Cleaning)
Fill the water reservoir to the 12-cup mark with fresh, cold water. Place an empty paper filter (or the permanent gold-tone filter, if using) in the filter basket. Close the top cover. Place the empty carafe on the heating plate. Press the ON/OFF button to start a full brewing cycle with only water. Discard the water after the cycle is complete. This cleans the internal components.

Operating Instructions
1. Filling the Water Reservoir
Open the top cover of the coffee maker. Fill the water reservoir with the desired amount of fresh, cold water using the water level indicator on the side. Do not exceed the 12-cup MAX line.
2. Adding Coffee Grounds
Place a standard cone-shaped paper filter into the filter basket, or use the included gold-tone permanent filter. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one level scoop (provided) per cup, but adjust to your taste. Close the top cover securely.
3. Brewing Coffee
- Standard Brew: Place the empty carafe on the heating plate. Turn the Brew/Clock knob to the BREW position. Press the ON/OFF button. The BREW light will illuminate, indicating brewing has started.
- 1-4 Cup Setting: For smaller batches (1-4 cups), press the '1-4' button before pressing ON/OFF. This optimizes the brewing process for smaller quantities to ensure full flavor.
4. Brew Pause Feature
The Brew Pause feature allows you to remove the carafe from the heating plate during the brewing cycle to pour a cup of coffee. The flow of coffee will automatically stop. Return the carafe to the heating plate within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
5. Programming Auto On/Off
To program the coffee maker to start brewing at a specific time:
- Set the Clock: Turn the Brew/Clock knob to CLOCK. Use the HR (Hour) and MIN (Minute) buttons to set the current time. The clock will display AM/PM.
- Set Auto On Time: Turn the Brew/Clock knob to PROG. Use the HR and MIN buttons to set the desired brew start time.
- Activate Auto On: Turn the Brew/Clock knob to AUTO ON. The AUTO ON light will illuminate. The coffee maker will start brewing at the programmed time.
- Auto Off: The coffee maker automatically shuts off after 2 hours. This feature is not adjustable.
Maintenance
1. Daily Cleaning
- Carafe and Filter Basket: After each use, wash the carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water. They are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
2. Descaling (Self-Clean Function)
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker, affecting its performance. The CLEAN indicator light will illuminate when it's time to descale. To descale:
- Fill the water reservoir to the 12-cup mark with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
- Place an empty paper filter (or gold-tone filter) in the filter basket and close the top cover.
- Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
- Press the CLEAN button. The CLEAN light will illuminate.
- Press the ON/OFF button to start the cleaning cycle. The coffee maker will run through a special cycle to remove mineral deposits.
- When the cycle is complete, the CLEAN light will turn off. Run two full cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse the unit thoroughly.
3. Water Filter Replacement
The charcoal water filter should be replaced every 60 days or after 60 uses, or more often if you have hard water. Follow the installation instructions in the Setup section for replacing the filter.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee not brewing. | No water in reservoir; ON/OFF button not pressed; power outage. | Fill reservoir; press ON/OFF; check power supply. |
| Coffee tastes weak. | Not enough coffee grounds; coarse grind; water filter needs replacement. | Add more grounds; use finer grind; replace water filter. |

| Brew Pause drips. | Carafe not returned quickly enough; mechanism clogged. | Return carafe within 20 seconds; clean filter basket area. |
| CLEAN light stays on. | Descaling cycle not completed or not rinsed. | Run a full descaling cycle and follow with two fresh water rinse cycles. |
