Setup Instructions

  1. Assembly: Assemble the filter components. Ensure all internal parts, including the UV clarifier, filter pads, and bio-balls, are correctly placed.
  2. Tubing Connection: Connect the filter to your pond pump using appropriate tubing. The inlet and outlet adapters are designed to fit 3/4 inch ID tubing or 1 inch ID tubing. For optimal flow, use the largest tubing size recommended. Secure all connections to prevent leaks.
  3. Pump Installation: Install your chosen pond pump (not included). Recommended pump sizes are 560 GPH (Model 52224) or 800 GPH (Model 52676).
  4. Filter Placement: The filter can be placed either submerged within the pond or externally, hidden out of the water. The 16 ft. power cord with a compact plug allows for flexible placement and can fit through a 1 inch ID conduit.
  5. Power Connection: Once all connections are secure and the filter is positioned, plug in the power cord to activate the UV clarifier and begin the filtration process.

Operating Instructions

The TotalPond Complete Pond Filter with UV Clarifier operates as a multi-stage filtration system to ensure clear and healthy pond water.

  • Mechanical Filtration: Water is pumped into the filter and first passes through a coarse black filter pad, which traps larger debris and solid waste.
  • Fine Filtration: Following the coarse pad, water flows through a fine blue filter pad, capturing smaller particles and suspended matter.
  • Biological Filtration: The water then moves through bio-balls, which provide a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize. These bacteria naturally break down harmful ammonia and nitrites, converting them into less toxic nitrates.
  • UV Clarification: Finally, the water passes over the 9W UV Clarifier bulb. The ultraviolet light eliminates microscopic organisms, such as single-celled algae, which are responsible for green water. This process helps maintain clear water without the use of chemicals.
  • Continuous Operation: For best results and continuous water clarity, the filter system should operate continuously.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your pond filter.

  • Filter Pad Cleaning: Periodically clean the coarse and fine filter pads to remove accumulated debris. The watertight lid with easy-grip handles allows for tool-free access. Rinse the pads with pond water to preserve beneficial bacteria.
  • UV Bulb Replacement: The 9W UV Clarifier bulb has an estimated lifespan of 8,000 hours. Replace the bulb annually or as needed to maintain effective algae control.
  • Bio-Ball Inspection: Inspect bio-balls during cleaning to ensure they are free of excessive sludge. Gentle rinsing with pond water can be performed if necessary.
  • Leak Prevention: Regularly check all hose connections and the lid seal for any signs of leakage. Ensure all fittings are securely tightened.
