2. Setup
2.1 Unpacking the Phone
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all items are present. The standard package includes the phone base, handset, and coiled handset cord. A power supply is not included as the phone is designed for Power Over Ethernet (POE).
2.2 Connecting the Handset
- Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the handset.
- Connect the other end of the coiled handset cord to the handset port on the phone base. This port is typically located on the side or rear of the phone base and is marked with a handset icon.
2.3 Network and Power Connection (POE)
The Polycom CX600 IP Phone is designed to receive power and network connectivity through a single Ethernet cable using Power Over Ethernet (POE) technology. Ensure your network switch or injector supports 802.3af POE.
- Locate the Ethernet port on the back of the phone, typically labeled "LAN" or with a network icon.
- Connect one end of a standard Ethernet cable to this port.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a POE-enabled port on your network switch or a POE injector.
- The phone will power on automatically once connected to a POE source.
Note: If POE is not available, a separate power adapter (not included) must be used. Connect the power adapter to the phone's power input port and then to a wall outlet.
2.4 Initial Configuration
Upon first power-up, the phone will attempt to connect to your network and register with your Microsoft Lync (Skype for Business) server. Follow any on-screen prompts for initial setup, which may include entering user credentials or selecting language preferences. Network administrators typically manage the firmware updates automatically via the Lync server.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the Phone
To clean the phone, use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or aerosol sprays, as these can damage the phone's surface and internal components. Ensure the phone is disconnected from power before cleaning.
4.2 Firmware Updates
Firmware updates for the Polycom CX600 are typically managed and deployed automatically by your Microsoft Lync (Skype for Business) server. Consult your IT administrator for information regarding firmware update schedules or manual update procedures, if applicable.
5. Troubleshooting
- Phone Does Not Power On:
Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to a POE-enabled port on your network switch or a POE injector. If using a separate power adapter, verify it is correctly connected and plugged into a working power outlet.
- No Dial Tone or Audio Issues (Cannot Hear/Be Heard):
Check the handset cord connection at both the handset and the phone base. Verify that the volume is adjusted appropriately. If the issue persists, ensure the phone is properly registered with the Lync server. A faulty unit may exhibit no audio capability.
- Cannot Connect to Lync Server:
Confirm network connectivity. Ensure the Ethernet cable is functional and the network port is active. Contact your IT administrator to verify Lync server settings and phone registration status. This phone requires direct LAN access to Lync and will not work via VPN or tethered to a laptop/PC.
- Display Not Working or Frozen:
Attempt to restart the phone by disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet cable (or power adapter). If the issue persists, contact your IT administrator.
