ZEFAL 5601
Zefal Mini Frame Pump Instruction Manual
Model: 5601
1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Zefal Mini Frame Pump, Model 5601. This compact and durable pump is designed for convenient inflation of bicycle tires, compatible with both Presta and Schrader valves. This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your pump to ensure reliable performance.
2. Safety Information
- Always ensure the pump head is securely attached to the valve before inflating to prevent air leakage and potential injury.
- Do not overinflate tires. Refer to your tire's sidewall for recommended pressure (PSI/Bar) limits.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Avoid exposing the pump to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
- Inspect the pump regularly for any signs of damage or wear. Do not use if damaged.
3. Package Contents
Your Zefal Mini Frame Pump package should contain the following items:
- Zefal Mini Frame Pump (Model 5601)
- Frame mounting bracket
4. Setup
4.1. Attaching the Frame Mounting Bracket
The Zefal Mini Frame Pump includes a bracket for convenient attachment to your bicycle frame, typically under a water bottle cage.
- Locate the water bottle cage mounting holes on your bicycle frame.
- Position the frame mounting bracket against these holes.
- Use the existing water bottle cage bolts (or provided bolts, if any) to secure the bracket to the frame. Ensure it is tightened firmly.
- Slide the Zefal Mini Frame Pump into the bracket. The pump should fit snugly and be held securely by the integrated strap or clip.

4.2. Valve Compatibility (Presta and Schrader)
The Zefal Mini Frame Pump is designed to work with both common bicycle valve types:
- Presta Valve: Thinner, typically found on road bikes and higher-end mountain bikes. It has a small locknut at the top that needs to be unscrewed before inflation.
- Schrader Valve: Wider, similar to car tire valves, commonly found on mountain bikes and commuter bikes.
The pump head automatically adapts to both valve types. No manual adjustment is required.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Preparing the Tire Valve
- For Presta Valves: Unscrew the small locknut at the top of the valve stem counter-clockwise until it is loose. Press down briefly on the valve stem to release a small amount of air, ensuring it is open.
- For Schrader Valves: No special preparation is usually needed, but ensure the valve cap is removed.
5.2. Attaching the Pump to the Valve
- Place the pump head firmly onto the tire valve. Ensure it is pushed down completely and straight.
- Engage the thumb lock lever (if present) by pushing it down or flipping it to secure the pump head to the valve. This creates an airtight seal.
5.3. Inflating the Tire
- Hold the pump barrel firmly with one hand and the ergonomic handle with the other.
- Pump by pushing and pulling the handle smoothly and steadily.
- Continue pumping until the desired tire pressure is reached. Refer to the PSI/Bar recommendation on your tire's sidewall.
5.4. Detaching the Pump
- Once the tire is inflated, disengage the thumb lock lever (if present) by flipping it up or pulling it back.
- Carefully pull the pump head straight off the valve. A small hiss of air is normal.
- For Presta Valves: Screw the locknut back down clockwise until it is finger-tight to seal the valve.
- Replace the valve cap (if applicable).
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the pump barrel and handle with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
- Lubrication: Periodically, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the piston shaft to ensure smooth operation. Do not use petroleum-based lubricants as they can damage seals.
- Storage: Store the pump in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. When not in use, the handle locks in place.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Air leaks when pumping | Pump head not fully seated or thumb lock not engaged. Presta valve locknut not unscrewed. Damaged valve core. | Ensure pump head is pushed firmly onto the valve and the thumb lock is engaged. Unscrew Presta valve locknut. Check and replace valve core if necessary. |
| Tire not inflating | Pump head not sealed correctly. Tire puncture. | Re-attach pump head securely. Check tire for punctures and repair if found. |
| Pump handle stiff or difficult to operate | Lack of lubrication or dirt in the barrel. | Clean the pump barrel and apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the piston shaft. |
