Front Panel Controls

Figure 4: Close-up view of the Peavey Tour 700 front panel, highlighting the various control knobs and sliders.

  1. Input Gain (High/Low): Controls the input sensitivity. Use the HIGH GAIN input for passive basses and the LOW GAIN input for active basses or instruments with high output. Adjust to achieve desired signal level without clipping.
  2. Pre-Gain: Adjusts the input level to the preamp section. This control works in conjunction with the Input Gain.
  3. Bright Switch: Engages a high-frequency boost for added presence and clarity.
  4. Contour Switch: Provides a mid-scoop EQ curve, useful for slap bass or modern tones. Select between NORMAL and V-SHAPE.
  5. Mute Switch: Silences the amplifier output, useful for tuning or changing instruments.
  6. Graphic EQ: A 9-band graphic equalizer allows precise tonal shaping across various frequencies (40 Hz to 3.2 kHz). Each slider boosts or cuts its respective frequency by up to 15dB.
  7. EQ Bypass Switch: Bypasses the graphic EQ section.
  8. Octaver: Adds a sub-octave effect to your bass signal. The MIX knob controls the blend of the dry and octave-down signal. The ENABLE/DISABLE switch activates or deactivates the effect.
  9. Post-Gain: Controls the overall output volume of the amplifier.
  10. Protect/Clip LED: Illuminates to indicate signal clipping or protection mode. Adjust gain controls to prevent clipping.
  11. Power Switch: Turns the amplifier ON or OFF.

Basic Operation Steps

  1. Ensure all connections (instrument, speakers, power) are secure.
  2. Turn the Post-Gain control to its minimum setting.
  3. Turn on the amplifier using the Power Switch.
  4. Slowly increase the Pre-Gain and Input Gain controls while playing your instrument until the desired input level is achieved without the Clip LED illuminating frequently.
  5. Adjust the Graphic EQ and other tone controls to shape your sound.
  6. Gradually increase the Post-Gain control to set your overall volume.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the amplifier. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris to ensure proper cooling.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the amplifier in a cool, dry place, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Transportation: When transporting the amplifier, ensure it is securely packed to prevent physical damage.
