1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your APC Netshelter Rack PDU, model AP8841. Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting to install or operate the unit. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Information
Observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury and damage to the equipment:
- Electrical Hazard: This unit operates at high voltages. Installation and servicing should only be performed by qualified personnel.
- Grounding: Ensure the PDU is properly grounded before connecting any equipment.
- Overload Protection: Do not overload the PDU. The total current draw of connected equipment must not exceed the PDU's rated capacity.
- Environment: Install the PDU in a controlled environment, free from excessive moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures.
- Cable Management: Route power cords to prevent tripping hazards and ensure proper airflow.
3. Product Overview

4. Setup
4.1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the PDU from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of shipping damage. If damage is found, contact your reseller or APC customer support immediately.
4.2. Mounting the PDU
The AP8841 is designed for 0U vertical mounting within a standard server rack. It typically mounts to the rear of the rack's side rails. Use the provided mounting hardware to secure the PDU firmly in place. Ensure that the PDU does not obstruct airflow or access to other rack components.

4.3. Connecting Input Power
Connect the PDU's NEMA L6-30P input plug to a compatible 30A, 200V-240V single-phase power source. Ensure the power source is properly rated and protected by an appropriate circuit breaker.

4.4. Connecting Devices
Connect your IT equipment's power cords to the available C13 and C19 outlets on the PDU. Distribute the load evenly across the outlets to avoid overloading any single circuit or the PDU itself. The AP8841 provides (36) C13 outlets and (6) C19 outlets.

4.5. Network Configuration (Optional)
The AP8841 includes network capabilities for remote monitoring. Connect an Ethernet cable from the PDU's network port to your network switch. The PDU can obtain an IP address via DHCP. Note that in some network configurations, the PDU may retain a previously assigned DHCP address, which could require manual network module reset or static IP assignment if network changes occur.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Powering On
Once all connections are secure, apply power to the PDU's input source. The PDU will power on automatically. Observe the status indicators on the unit for normal operation.
5.2. Monitoring
The AP8841 is a metered PDU, providing real-time current monitoring. This information can be viewed locally on the unit's display (if equipped) or remotely via its network interface. Refer to the APC management software documentation for detailed instructions on remote monitoring and configuration.
5.3. Overload Conditions
If an overload condition occurs, the PDU may trip its internal circuit breakers to protect connected equipment. Reduce the load by disconnecting non-essential devices, then reset the circuit breaker. Investigate the cause of the overload to prevent recurrence.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Regular Inspection
Periodically inspect the PDU and its power cords for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Ensure all cables are properly routed and secured.
6.2. Cleaning
Keep the PDU clean and free of dust. Use a dry, lint-free cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the unit or create an electrical hazard.
6.3. Firmware Updates
Check the APC website for available firmware updates for your AP8841 PDU. Firmware updates can provide new features, performance improvements, and security enhancements. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update package carefully.
7. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues. For more complex problems, contact APC technical support.
- No Power to Outlets:
- Check if the input power cord is securely connected.
- Verify that the upstream circuit breaker for the input power source has not tripped.
- Check if any PDU circuit breakers have tripped due to an overload. Reset if necessary.
- Network Connectivity Issues:
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is properly connected.
- Verify network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway).
- If using DHCP and experiencing issues after network changes, try resetting the network module or configuring a static IP address.
- Overload Indication:
- Reduce the total load connected to the PDU.
- Distribute equipment across multiple PDUs or circuits if available.
