Taylor ES Go Pickup for GS Mini Instruction Manual

Model: GS Mini Go Pick Up

Brand: Taylor

1. Introduction and Overview

The Taylor ES-Go Pickup is a magnetic soundhole pickup specifically designed for the Taylor GS Mini acoustic guitar. This innovative accessory allows you to easily amplify your GS Mini, enabling connection to an acoustic amplifier, PA system, or recording device for enhanced sound projection. Its design prioritizes user-friendly installation, making it possible for guitar owners to integrate the pickup without requiring professional assistance.

2. Setup and Installation

Installing the ES-Go pickup is a straightforward process that requires minimal tools, primarily a screwdriver. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Prepare the Guitar: Carefully remove the three endpin screws and the endpin from your Taylor GS Mini. This action creates the necessary opening to insert the endpin jack cable.
  2. Insert the Cable: Guide the endpin jack cable through the hole where the endpin was removed.
  3. Secure the Cable: Locate the pre-installed metal clip inside the GS Mini. Fold this clip over the cable to securely hold it in place within the guitar body, preventing movement.
  4. Connect the Pickup: Plug the endpin jack cable into the input jack located on the ES-Go pickup.
  5. Clip the Pickup: Once connected, clip the ES-Go pickup into the pre-installed connecting bracket inside the guitar's soundhole. The pickup is designed to "float" and should not make direct contact with the soundboard.

3. Operating Instructions

After successful installation, the Taylor ES-Go Pickup is ready for use. Connect your GS Mini guitar to an external amplification or recording system using a standard instrument cable.

  • Amplification: Plug the guitar into an acoustic amplifier for live performance or practice.
  • PA System: Connect to a public address (PA) system for larger venues or group performances.
  • Recording: Use the pickup to record your guitar's amplified sound directly into an audio interface or recording device.

Please note that the ES-Go pickup itself does not feature onboard volume or tone controls. All adjustments to volume and equalization will be managed through your connected amplifier, PA system, or recording equipment.

4. Maintenance

The Taylor ES-Go Pickup is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. To ensure its longevity and optimal performance:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the pickup with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or fingerprints. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use, store your guitar in a stable environment, away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight.
  • Connections: Periodically check the cable connections to ensure they are secure.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ES-Go pickup, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Sound:
    • Ensure all cables are securely connected between the guitar, pickup, and amplifier/PA system.
    • Verify that the amplifier or PA system is powered on and its volume is turned up.
    • Test with a different instrument cable to rule out a faulty cable.
  • Hum or Buzz:
    • This can sometimes occur with magnetic pickups. Ensure your amplifier and other connected equipment are properly grounded.
    • Try plugging your amplifier into a different electrical outlet.
    • Move away from other electronic devices (computers, cell phones, fluorescent lights) that might cause interference.
    • If touching the endpin reduces the buzz, it may indicate a grounding issue with your setup. Consult a qualified technician if the problem persists.
  • Weak or Distorted Sound:
    • Check the input gain settings on your amplifier or mixing board.
    • Ensure the pickup is correctly seated in its bracket and the cable connection to the pickup is firm.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Taylor Guitars customer support for further assistance.
