2. Programming SAME Codes
Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) allows the radio to filter alerts for your specific location. You can program up to six different SAME codes.
- Press and hold the COUNTY button until the display shows 'SAME PROG'.
- Use CHANNEL or COUNTY to select a memory slot (e.g., 'SAME 1'). Press MODE.

Tip: You can find SAME codes for your area on the NOAA website or by contacting your local emergency management agency.
3. Receiving Weather Alerts
The radio continuously monitors for NOAA and EAS alerts. When an alert is issued for your programmed SAME codes, the radio will:
- Sound an audible alarm.
- Display a visual alert (e.g., 'WARNING', 'WATCH').
- Broadcast the alert message.
To silence an alert, press any button. The visual alert may remain until the event passes.
4. Monitoring NOAA Broadcasts
You can manually tune into NOAA weather broadcasts:
- Extend the antenna for best reception.
- Press the CHANNEL button to cycle through available NOAA weather channels.
- The radio will play the live broadcast.
5. Volume Control
The volume can be adjusted using the volume buttons located on the side of the unit. During an alert, the volume may automatically increase to a high level to ensure awareness. Some models may not allow volume reduction during an active alert.
6. Using the Belt Clip
Attach the included belt clip to the designated slot on the back of the radio for portable use. This allows for easy carrying during outdoor activities.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator on the LCD display shows low power, replace the 3 AA batteries promptly. Even with AC power, fresh batteries ensure backup functionality during power outages.
Storage
If storing the radio for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the unit.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Solution |
|---|---|
| No power / Unit does not turn on. | Check battery installation and polarity. Ensure AC adapter is securely connected and wall outlet is functional. Replace batteries if low. |
| Poor reception / Cannot hear NOAA broadcasts. | Extend the antenna fully. Move the radio to a location with better signal (e.g., near a window, away from large metal objects). Try different NOAA channels. |
| Not receiving alerts for my area. | Verify that the correct SAME codes for your geographic area are programmed. Ensure the radio is in monitoring mode. Check if your area is currently under an active alert. |
| Alert volume is too loud and cannot be adjusted. | This is a design feature to ensure critical alerts are heard. Some models do not allow volume reduction during an active alert. |
| Display is dim or blank. | Check battery level or AC power connection. Adjust contrast settings if available (refer to full manual if applicable). |
