Setup

1. Initial Combination

The lock is factory preset to open at 0-0-0. To open the lock for the first time, align the three dials to 0-0-0 and pull up the shackle.

2. Setting Your Personal Combination

  1. Open the lock by setting the dials to the current combination (initially 0-0-0) and pulling up the shackle.
  2. With the shackle in the open position, rotate the shackle 90 degrees (or 180 degrees, depending on the model) counter-clockwise until it clicks into the setting notch.
  3. Press the shackle down firmly into the lock body while holding it in the rotated position.
  4. While holding the shackle down, set your desired 3-digit combination by turning the dials. Choose a memorable number.
  5. Release the shackle. Rotate the shackle back to its original open position. The new combination is now set.
  6. Scramble the dials to lock the shackle. Test your new combination to ensure it opens the lock correctly before securing any items.

Important: Remember your combination. Yale cannot open your lock if the combination is forgotten.

Operating the Lock

Opening the Lock

  1. Align the three combination dials to your personal 3-digit code.
  2. Pull the shackle upwards to release it from the lock body.

Closing the Lock

  1. Ensure the shackle is in the open position.
  2. Insert the shackle into the lock body.

Maintenance

The Yale YTP2/26/216/1R travel lock requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the lock body with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Lubrication: If the dials become stiff over time, a small amount of graphite lubricant (e.g., from a pencil lead) can be applied to the moving parts. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
  • Storage: Store the lock in a dry environment when not in use to prevent corrosion.

Troubleshooting

  • Lock will not open with the correct combination:
    • Ensure the numbers are perfectly aligned in the center of the windows.
    • Double-check that you are using the correct combination. If you recently changed it, try the old combination as well, in case the change was not fully registered.
    • Apply slight pressure to the shackle while turning the dials to ensure all internal components are properly seated.
  • Dials are stiff or hard to turn:
    • Clean the dials and surrounding areas to remove any accumulated dirt or debris.
    • Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant as described in the Maintenance section.
  • Shackle does not fully close or lock:
    • Ensure the combination dials are scrambled after inserting the shackle. The lock will not secure if the correct combination is still displayed.
    • Check for any obstructions preventing the shackle from fully seating.
