Setup and Installation
Installing the CURT 45792 Dual Receiver Trailer Hitch Ball Mount is a straightforward process. Ensure your vehicle is equipped with a standard 2-inch hitch receiver before proceeding.
Installation Steps:
- Prepare Vehicle: Ensure your vehicle's 2-inch hitch receiver is clear of debris and obstructions.
- Insert Shank: Slide the 2-inch shank of the CURT 45792 Dual Receiver into your vehicle's hitch receiver. The rounded shank design aids in smooth insertion.
- Align Pin Holes: Push the dual receiver in until the pin holes on the shank align with the pin holes on your vehicle's hitch receiver.
- Secure with Hitch Pin: Insert a suitable hitch pin (not included) through the aligned holes. Secure the hitch pin with a clip or lock (not included) to prevent accidental disengagement.
- Verify Connection: Gently pull on the installed dual receiver to ensure it is securely fastened and does not wobble excessively.
Note: A hitch pin and clip/lock are essential for securing the ball mount and are sold separately. Always use a hitch pin with adequate shear strength for your towing application.
Operating Instructions
The CURT 45792 Dual Receiver provides dual functionality for your towing needs:
Using the Bottom Receiver (Towing):
- The bottom 2-inch receiver is designed for towing trailers. Attach your ball mount with the appropriate trailer ball to this receiver.
- Ensure your trailer's coupler is properly secured to the trailer ball.
- Always connect safety chains from the trailer to your vehicle's hitch or frame.
- Adhere strictly to the maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs GTW and 350 lbs TW. Do not exceed the lowest-rated component in your towing system (vehicle, hitch, ball mount, trailer ball, or trailer).
Using the Top Receiver (Accessories):
- The top 2-inch receiver is intended for hitch-mounted accessories such as bike racks or cargo carriers.
- Important: The top receiver is NOT intended for towing a trailer. Using it for towing can lead to serious damage or accidents.
- This receiver provides additional clearance, which is particularly useful for vehicles with rear-mounted spare tires or bumpers that interfere with accessories.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance will prolong the life and ensure the safe operation of your CURT Dual Receiver Trailer Hitch Ball Mount.
- Regular Inspection: Before each use, inspect the ball mount for any signs of wear, damage, cracks, bends, or corrosion. Pay close attention to welds and pin holes.
- Cleaning: Clean the ball mount periodically with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely to prevent rust.
- Corrosion Protection: Although the unit has a powder coat finish, consider applying a rust-inhibiting spray or grease to exposed metal surfaces, especially after prolonged exposure to harsh weather or road salt.
- Storage: When not in use, store the ball mount in a dry, protected area to minimize exposure to elements.
Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
- Difficulty Inserting into Hitch: Ensure your vehicle's hitch receiver is clean and free of rust or debris. A small amount of grease on the shank can aid insertion. Verify the hitch receiver is a standard 2-inch size.
- Hitch Pin Holes Not Aligning: Ensure the ball mount is fully inserted. Check for any obstructions inside the vehicle's receiver or on the ball mount's shank.
- Excessive Play/Wobble: A small amount of play is normal. If excessive, ensure the hitch pin is fully engaged and secured. Consider using an anti-rattle device if available for your hitch system.
- Rust Formation: Despite the powder coat, rust can occur if the finish is scratched or chipped. Clean the affected area, sand lightly, and apply a rust-inhibiting paint or coating.
