1. Introduction

3. Setup

3.1 Connecting Your TiVo Premiere XL DVR

Follow these steps to connect your TiVo Premiere XL DVR to your television and cable service:

  1. Power Off: Ensure your television and any other connected devices are powered off before beginning.
  2. Connect to TV (HDMI): Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the TiVo DVR and the other end to an available HDMI IN port on your television. Note the HDMI input number on your TV for later selection.
  3. Connect to Cable Service:
    • If using a CableCARD: Insert your CableCARD into the designated slot on the TiVo DVR. Contact your cable provider for CableCARD activation.
    • If using a coaxial cable directly from the wall: Connect the coaxial cable to the CABLE IN port on the back of the TiVo DVR.
  4. Connect to Internet: The TiVo DVR requires an internet connection for program guide data, software updates, and streaming services.
    • Wired Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the ETHERNET port on the back of the TiVo DVR.
    • Wireless Connection: The TiVo Premiere XL supports Wi-Fi. You will configure the wireless connection during the guided setup process.
  5. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the AC IN port on the back of the TiVo DVR, then plug the other end into a wall outlet.
  6. Power On: Power on your television and select the correct HDMI input. The TiVo DVR will automatically power on and begin the guided setup process.

The TiVo Premiere XL DVR allows you to record up to 150 hours of HD programming. To record a program:

  1. Navigate to the desired program in the Guide or Find Programs menu.
  2. Press the Record button on your remote.
  3. For series recordings, select Create a Season Pass and configure options such as "New episodes only" or "All episodes."
