The Nikon Coolpix L22 is a user-friendly 12.0-megapixel digital camera designed for everyday photography. Setup Guide
1. Inserting Batteries
The Nikon Coolpix L22 operates on two AA-size batteries, offering convenient power options for travel and on-the-go use. To insert the batteries:
- Locate the battery chamber cover on the side of the camera.
- Slide the release latch to open the cover.
- Insert two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery chamber cover securely until it clicks into place.

2. Inserting a Memory Card
The camera supports SD/SDHC memory cards for storing photos and videos. It also has approximately 19 MB of internal memory. To insert a memory card:
- Open the battery/memory card compartment cover.
- Insert the SD/SDHC memory card into the designated slot with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks into place.
- Close the compartment cover securely.

Operating the Camera
1. Powering On/Off
Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to power it on or off.
2. Basic Shooting (Easy Auto Mode)
For simple point-and-shoot operation, use the Easy Auto Mode. In this mode, the camera automatically selects the optimal scene mode based on the subject and surrounding conditions.
- Turn the camera on.
- Frame your shot using the 3.0-inch LCD monitor.
- Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus indicator will light up.
- Press the shutter button all the way down to take the picture.

3. Zooming
Use the zoom lever located around the shutter button to adjust the optical zoom. Push the lever towards T (Telephoto) to zoom in, and towards W (Wide-angle) to zoom out.
4. Smart Portrait System
The Smart Portrait System enhances portrait photography:
- Face-priority AF: Automatically detects and focuses on up to 12 faces in the frame.
- Smile Mode: Automatically releases the shutter when a smile is detected.
- Blink Warning: Alerts you if a subject may have blinked.
- In-Camera Red-Eye Fix: Corrects red-eye effect automatically after the photo is taken.
5. Recording Movies
To record a movie, switch to movie mode (if available via a dedicated button or menu option) and press the shutter button to start/stop recording. The camera captures 640 x 480 movies with sound at 30 frames per second.
Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning the Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for camera lenses. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
- Cleaning the LCD Monitor: Gently wipe the screen with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn smudges, use a specialized LCD cleaning solution applied to the cloth, not directly to the screen.
- Camera Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use organic solvents like paint thinner or benzene.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
