3. Setup Instructions

The Smart Caregiver Pager System is designed for quick and easy setup right out of the box. Follow these steps to get your system operational:

  1. Install Batteries:
    • Open the battery compartment on the back of the pager unit and insert the two (2) AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
    • Open the battery compartment on each call button and insert the two (2) 12V batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  2. Select Pager Alert Tone: On the side of the pager unit, locate the switch to select your preferred alert tone: 'Ding Dong' or 'Alarm'. The 'Alarm' setting provides a louder, continuous alert until manually turned off.
  3. Position Call Buttons: The call buttons can be used in two primary ways:
    • Wearable: Attach the included lanyard to the call button. The patient can wear this around their neck for easy access.
    • Mounted: Use the provided mounting cradles and double-sided foam tape or screws to secure the call button to a flat, easily accessible surface, such as a bedside table, wall, or wheelchair.
  4. Test the System: Press each call button to ensure it sends an alert to the pager. The pager should sound the selected tone. Verify the range by testing from different locations within the intended monitoring area.

The system is pre-paired from the factory, so no additional pairing steps are required.

4. Operating Instructions

Operating the Smart Caregiver Pager System is straightforward, designed for ease of use by both patients and caregivers.

4.1 For the Patient (Call Button User)

To request assistance, simply press the large 'Push for Help' button located on the center of the call button. A small red light will illuminate on the button to confirm that the signal has been sent. The pager unit held by the caregiver will then sound an alert.

4.2 For the Caregiver (Pager User)

The pager unit is designed to be portable, allowing you to carry it with you, clip it to your clothing using the integrated belt clip, or place it in a convenient location within the 300-foot range of the call buttons.

  • Receiving Alerts: When a call button is pressed, the pager will emit the selected alert tone ('Ding Dong' or 'Alarm').
  • Silencing Alerts: If the 'Alarm' tone is selected, it will continue to sound until you manually switch the pager to the 'OFF' position or to the 'Ding Dong' setting. The 'Ding Dong' tone will sound twice and then stop automatically.
  • On/Off Switch: Use the side switch on the pager to turn the unit on or off as needed.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your Smart Caregiver Pager System, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Battery Replacement: The pager uses two (2) AA batteries, and each call button uses one (1) 12V battery. Replace batteries promptly when the alert signal becomes weak or inconsistent. The average battery life for the system is approximately 720 hours of continuous use.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the pager and call buttons with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the units in water.
  • Storage: If storing the system for an extended period, remove all batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the devices. Store in a cool, dry place.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Smart Caregiver Pager System, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Alert from Pager:
    • Ensure the pager is turned 'ON'.
    • Check and replace the batteries in both the pager and the call buttons.
    • Ensure the call button is within the 300-foot range of the pager. Walls, large metal objects, and other electronic devices can sometimes interfere with the signal.
  • Weak or Intermittent Signal:
    • Replace batteries in both units.
    • Reduce the distance between the call button and the pager.
    • Relocate the pager or call button to avoid potential signal interference from other electronic devices.
  • Call Button Light Does Not Illuminate:
    • Replace the 12V battery in the call button.
    • Ensure the battery is inserted with correct polarity.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Smart Caregiver Corporation customer support for further assistance.
