Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Okuma Cy-200 Cayenne Right Handed Baitcaster Crank reel. The Cy-200 is engineered with a rigid die-cast aluminum frame, an aluminum right side plate for gear alignment, and an A6061-T6 machined aluminum anodized spool. It features a machine-cut brass main and pinion gear, a Carbonite drag system, and a 9-precision bearing drive system for smooth performance. Please read this manual thoroughly before using your reel to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Setup Guide
1. Attaching the Reel to a Rod
Align the reel foot with the reel seat on your fishing rod. Secure the reel by tightening the reel seat nut until the reel is firmly in place and does not wobble. Ensure the reel is oriented correctly for right-handed operation.
2. Spooling Fishing Line
- Open the left side plate access port to expose the spool.
- Tie the end of your fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the side plate.
- Thread the line through the line guide and all guides on your fishing rod.
- Apply light tension to the line as you reel it onto the spool. Ensure the line is spooled evenly across the entire width of the spool. Do not overfill the spool; leave approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the spool lip to prevent tangles and backlashes.

Operating Instructions
1. Adjusting the Drag System
The Carbonite drag system is controlled by the star-shaped drag knob located next to the handle. Turn the drag knob clockwise to increase drag pressure and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Adjust the drag so that line can be pulled off the spool with moderate effort, preventing line breakage during a fight with a fish. A good starting point is to set the drag to approximately 25-30% of your line's breaking strength.

2. Adjusting the Spool Tension (Cast Control)
The spool tension knob, typically located on the side opposite the handle, controls the free spin of the spool. To set, attach your lure, engage the reel, and then disengage the spool. Slowly tighten the spool tension knob until the lure slowly falls to the ground. This setting helps prevent backlashes during casting. Fine-tune as needed based on lure weight and casting conditions.
3. Using the Velocity Control System (Braking)
The 8-position Velocity Control System (VCS) is an internal centrifugal braking system. To access, open the left side plate. Adjust the small pins or weights inside the reel to control the amount of braking applied to the spool during a cast. More pins engaged means more braking, which is useful for beginners or when casting lighter lures or into wind. Fewer pins engaged allows for longer casts but requires more thumb control to prevent backlashes.
4. Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Press the thumb bar to disengage the spool.
- Use your thumb to lightly feather the spool to prevent it from spinning freely.
- Make your cast. As the lure flies, continue to feather the spool with your thumb to control its speed and prevent backlashes.
- Just before the lure hits the water, apply firm thumb pressure to stop the spool.
- Begin retrieving by turning the handle. This will automatically re-engage the spool.

Maintenance
1. After Each Use
- Rinse the reel with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and debris. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe the reel dry with a soft cloth.
- Loosen the drag completely to prevent compression of the drag washers during storage.
2. Periodic Lubrication
- Apply a small amount of reel oil to the spool bearings, handle knobs, and any moving parts.
- Apply a thin layer of reel grease to the main gear and pinion gear. Refer to a reel schematic if performing a full disassembly.
- Use only lubricants specifically designed for fishing reels.
3. Storage
Store your reel in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Consider using a reel cover or case to protect it from dust and physical damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Frequent Backlashes | Spool tension too loose, braking system not engaged enough, improper thumb control, overfilled spool. | Tighten spool tension, engage more pins on the Velocity Control System, practice thumb control, remove excess line. |
| Stiff or Grinding Retrieve | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears, damaged bearings. | Clean and lubricate gears and bearings. If problem persists, professional service may be required. |
| Drag Slips or is Inconsistent | Drag washers are dry, worn, or contaminated with oil/grease. | Clean drag washers. Replace if worn. Ensure drag is loosened during storage. |
| Line Does Not Lay Evenly | Line guide is obstructed or damaged, reel not spooled correctly. | Check line guide for debris. Respool line ensuring even tension. |
