Setup and Installation
1. Battery Installation
The receiver collar operates on one 9V alkaline battery. To install:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the receiver.
- Twist the battery cap counter-clockwise using a coin or flathead screwdriver until it unlocks.
- Insert a new 9V alkaline battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align correctly.
- Replace the battery cap and twist clockwise until it is securely locked. Ensure the cap is tight to maintain the collar's waterproof seal.

2. Fitting the Receiver Collar
Proper fit is essential for the collar to function correctly and safely.
- Position the receiver on the center of your dog's neck, with the contact points underneath.
- Adjust the strap so that it is snug. You should be able to fit one finger comfortably between the contact point and your dog's neck.
- The contact points must make direct contact with your dog's skin. If your dog has long fur, you may need to trim the fur around the contact points or use the longer contact points provided.
- Check the fit daily to ensure comfort and proper contact.
Operation
How the System Works
When your dog approaches the boundary wire of your PetSafe In-Ground Fence System, the receiver collar will first emit a warning tone and vibration. If your dog continues into the correction zone, the collar will deliver a static stimulation. This system helps to establish a safe boundary for your pet.

Adjusting Correction Levels
The Stubborn Dog Receiver Collar offers 4 adjustable levels of static stimulation, with the highest intensity available for hard-to-train dogs. It also includes a tone and vibration mode, which can be particularly useful for training hearing-impaired dogs.
Refer to your specific PetSafe In-Ground Fence System manual for detailed instructions on how to adjust the correction levels on your receiver collar.
Compatibility
This receiver collar is compatible with most PetSafe In-Ground Systems. It is not compatible with PetSafe YardMax and UltraSmart In-Ground Fence Systems.

Training Your Pet
Effective training is crucial for your dog to understand and respect the boundary. Always introduce the system gradually and positively.
- Begin with short, supervised training sessions in the yard.
- Use boundary flags to visually mark the warning zone.
- Walk your dog on a leash near the boundary, allowing them to hear the warning tone. Praise and redirect them away from the boundary.
- Gradually introduce the static stimulation, ensuring your dog understands the connection between the boundary and the correction.
- Never use the system to punish your dog. The goal is to teach them to avoid the boundary.

Maintenance
- Collar Fit and Skin Check: Regularly check the collar fit and your dog's neck for any signs of irritation, redness, or sores. Adjust the collar as needed.
- Battery Replacement: The receiver collar has a low battery indicator. When the battery is low, the indicator light will flash. Replace the 9V alkaline battery as described in the 'Battery Installation' section.
- Cleaning: Clean the receiver collar and contact points periodically with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
