PetSafe PIF-300

PetSafe Wireless Containment System PIF-300 User Manual

Model: PIF-300 | Brand: PetSafe

1. Introduction

The PetSafe Wireless Containment System PIF-300 provides a secure, circular boundary for your dog without the need for buried wires or physical fencing. This portable system is designed for quick setup, making it suitable for home use or travel.

The system creates an adjustable circular boundary up to 2,023 square meters (55 meters in diameter) from the transmitter. It includes a waterproof receiver collar with a tone-only mode for training and 5 adjustable levels of static stimulation to match your dog's temperament. The collar fits neck sizes between 15 cm and 71 cm (6-28 inches) and is recommended for dogs weighing 3.6 kg (8 lbs) and up. Additional collars can be purchased to contain an unlimited number of pets with a single system.

2. Safety Information

Before operating this product, please read this entire manual carefully. Failure to follow instructions can result in injury to your pet or damage to the system. This system is intended for use with dogs only. Do not use this product if your dog is aggressive or if you are unsure if it is appropriate for your dog. Consult a veterinarian or certified trainer if you have concerns.

Ensure the transmitter is placed in a weather-protected location. Always supervise your pet during initial training and until you are confident they understand the boundary. Regularly check the collar for proper fit and skin irritation.

3. Components Included

  • Wireless Transmitter with Power Adaptor
  • Waterproof Receiver Collar with Adjustable Strap
  • 50 Training Flags
  • Test Light Tool
  • Short and Long Contact Points (for various coat lengths)

4. Setup

4.1 Transmitter Placement

Place the wireless transmitter in a central, weather-protected location within your home or a suitable outdoor structure. The system creates a circular boundary, so central placement optimizes coverage. Avoid placing the transmitter near large metal objects or appliances, as these can interfere with the signal and create inconsistent boundaries.

4.2 Adjusting the Boundary

Plug the transmitter into a standard electrical outlet. Use the boundary adjustment dial on the transmitter to set the desired range. The system can create a circular boundary from 1.5 meters (5 feet) up to 27 meters (90 feet) in all directions from the base unit, resulting in a maximum diameter of 55 meters (180 feet) or approximately 2,023 square meters (1/2 acre).

4.3 Collar Fitting

Ensure the receiver collar is properly fitted to your dog. The collar should be snug enough for the contact points to touch your dog's skin, but not so tight as to cause discomfort. You should be able to fit one finger snugly between the contact point and your dog's neck. Select the appropriate contact points (short or long) based on your dog's coat length.

4.4 Training Your Pet

Use the included training flags to visually mark the boundary. Begin training your dog in the tone-only mode to associate the warning tone with the boundary. Gradually introduce static stimulation levels as your dog learns. Consistent, positive reinforcement training is crucial for success. The system features static-free reentry, meaning your pet will not receive a correction when returning to the safe zone after crossing the boundary.

5. Operating the System

5.1 Collar Functions

The receiver collar provides a warning tone when your dog approaches the boundary. If your dog continues past the warning tone, it will receive a static stimulation. There are 5 adjustable levels of static stimulation, allowing you to customize the correction to your dog's sensitivity. Start with the lowest level and increase only if necessary.

5.2 Expanding Coverage

For larger areas or irregularly shaped yards, multiple transmitters can be used to create overlapping circular boundaries, effectively expanding the containment area.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

The receiver collar uses a PetSafe RFA-67D-11 battery, which typically lasts up to 2 months. A low battery indicator will alert you when replacement is needed. Always use genuine PetSafe replacement batteries to ensure optimal performance and safety.

6.2 Cleaning and Care

The receiver collar is waterproof, but it should be cleaned regularly to prevent skin irritation. Wipe the collar and contact points with a damp cloth. Ensure the transmitter is kept dry and free from debris.

7. Troubleshooting

If your system is not functioning as expected, consider the following:

  • No Correction/Tone: Check the collar battery. Ensure the contact points are making proper skin contact. Verify the transmitter is powered on and the boundary dial is set correctly.
  • Inconsistent Boundary: Reposition the transmitter to a more central location, away from large metal objects or dense foliage. Adjust the boundary dial.
  • Dog Not Responding: Review training steps. Ensure the stimulation level is appropriate for your dog's temperament. Check collar fit.
  • Collar Indicator Light: Refer to the collar's specific indicator light patterns in the full product manual for diagnostics.
