2. Safety Information
Your safety is paramount. Please observe the following safety guidelines:
- Electrical Connections: All electrical connections must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local and national electrical codes. Ensure the correct voltage and fuse ratings are used.
- Separate Control Unit: The Harvia Vega BC45E model requires a separate control unit for operation. Ensure this unit is purchased and installed correctly. The heater will not function without it.
- Sauna Room Construction: For optimal and safe operation, the sauna room must be properly constructed and insulated. The heater's power must be selected based on the sauna's size, materials, and insulation.
- Ventilation: Ensure efficient air circulation within the sauna room. Proper ventilation is crucial for safety and comfort.
- Safety Distances: Maintain the specified minimum safety distances from the heater to combustible materials (ceiling: 1100 mm, sides: 35 mm). Do not place any objects on or near the heater.
- Sauna Stones: Use only genuine Harvia sauna stones. Do not use ceramic stones or other materials, as they may damage the heater or pose a fire risk. Stones are not included with the heater.
- Children and Persons with Reduced Capabilities: This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
- Hot Surfaces: The heater surfaces become very hot during operation. Avoid direct contact to prevent burns.
3. Setup & Installation
The Harvia Vega BC45E is designed for wall-mounted installation. A mounting bracket is included for convenience.
3.1 Mounting the Heater
- Select a suitable location on the sauna wall, ensuring it meets the minimum safety distances (ceiling: 1100 mm, sides: 35 mm). The minimum sauna height must be 1900 mm.
- Attach the mounting bracket securely to the wall using appropriate fasteners.
- Hang the heater onto the mounting bracket. The design allows the heater to be mounted low on the wall, which helps distribute heat evenly.
3.2 Electrical Connections
All electrical work must be carried out by a certified electrician.
- The electrical connections are made from the side of the heater.
- Ensure the power supply matches the heater's requirements: 400 V 3N~ / 2N~ or 230 V 1N~.
- Use appropriate connection cables: 5 x 1.5 mm² or 3 x 2.5 mm².
- Install the correct fuses: 3 x 10 A or 1 x 20 A.
- Connect the heater to a separate control unit (not included). Refer to the control unit's manual for specific wiring instructions.
3.3 Placing Sauna Stones
- Before first use, carefully place the sauna stones into the stone compartment. The maximum stone capacity is 25 kg.
- Use stones with a diameter of 5–10 cm.
- Arrange the stones loosely to allow for good air circulation through the heater. Do not pack them tightly.
- Ensure stones do not cover the air vents or touch the heating elements directly in a way that obstructs heat flow.

4. Operating Instructions
The Harvia Vega BC45E is controlled by a separate external control unit. Refer to the instruction manual provided with your specific control unit for detailed operating procedures.
- Power On/Off: Use the external control unit to switch the heater on and off.
- Temperature Adjustment: Set the desired sauna temperature using the thermostat on the control unit.
- Heating Time: The control unit typically allows you to set a pre-heating time or a continuous operation period.
- Water on Stones: Once the stones are hot, you may gently ladle small amounts of water onto them to create steam (löyly). Use only clean tap water. Do not pour excessive amounts of water at once, as this can damage the heating elements.
- After Use: Always switch off the heater using the control unit after your sauna session. Allow the heater and stones to cool down completely before leaving the sauna unattended.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Harvia Vega BC45E heater.
- Sauna Stones: Inspect the sauna stones at least once a year, or more frequently with heavy use. Replace any cracked, crumbling, or discolored stones. Over time, stones can disintegrate and impede air circulation, affecting heater performance.
- Cleaning: The exterior of the heater can be wiped with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the heater is completely cool and disconnected from power before cleaning.
- Ventilation: Periodically check that the sauna's ventilation openings are clear and unobstructed.
- Electrical Connections: Have a qualified electrician periodically check the electrical connections for any signs of wear or loosening.
6. Troubleshooting
If your Harvia Vega BC45E heater is not functioning as expected, consider the following common issues:
- Heater Not Heating:
- Check the external control unit: Ensure it is powered on and the temperature is set correctly.
- Check the circuit breaker/fuses: Verify that the main power supply to the sauna and heater is active and that no fuses have blown.
- Inspect heating elements: Visually check if any heating elements are visibly damaged or broken. If so, contact a qualified service technician.
- Insufficient Heat:
- Check sauna stones: Ensure stones are properly arranged and not packed too tightly, which can restrict airflow. Replace old, crumbling stones.
- Sauna room insulation: Verify that the sauna room is adequately insulated and sealed. Drafts or poor insulation can lead to heat loss.
- Sauna size: Confirm that the heater's power (4.5 kW) is appropriate for your sauna volume (3-6 m³).
- Overheating/Safety Cut-out:
- The heater has an overheating protection. If it trips, allow the heater to cool down. Consult the control unit manual for instructions on resetting the safety cut-out.
- Ensure proper ventilation in the sauna room.
For issues not resolved by these steps, or for any electrical concerns, contact a qualified electrician or Harvia customer support.
