For Fujifilm Finepix S9600 Cameras

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the proper use and care of your Digital Nc 0.21x-0.22x High Grade Fish-Eye Lens. This accessory lens is designed to expand the field of view of your compatible camera, such as the Fujifilm Finepix S9600, allowing for ultra-wide-angle photography with a distinct curvilinear distortion effect. The lens features a durable steel barrel construction, multicoated optical glass for improved image quality, and is infrared compatible.

4. Operating Instructions

The Digital Nc fish-eye lens provides an ultra-wide field of view, capturing a significantly larger area than your camera's standard lens. This results in a distinctive visual effect characterized by strong curvilinear distortion, where straight lines appear curved, especially towards the edges of the frame.

  • Composition: Experiment with different angles and subjects to utilize the unique distortion for creative effects. Objects close to the lens will appear exaggerated, while distant objects will seem smaller.
  • Focus: Your camera's autofocus system should function normally with the attached fish-eye lens. For best results, ensure your camera's lens is set to a suitable focal length (often its widest setting) before attaching the fish-eye converter.
  • Vignetting: Depending on your camera's zoom setting, you may observe some vignetting (darkening of the corners) at certain focal lengths. This is common with wide-angle converter lenses. Adjusting your camera's zoom slightly may reduce this effect.
  • Infrared Photography: The multicoated optical glass is infrared compatible, allowing for specialized infrared photography when used with appropriate filters and camera settings.

5. Maintenance and Care

Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your fish-eye lens.

  • Cleaning: Use the provided NWV Direct Micro Fiber Cleaning Cloth to gently wipe dust and smudges from the lens surfaces. For stubborn marks, a specialized lens cleaning solution applied to the cloth (not directly to the lens) can be used. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Storage: Always replace the front lens cap and rear lens bottom cover when the lens is not in use. Store the lens in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the lens or subjecting it to strong impacts, as this can damage the optical elements or the steel barrel construction.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using your fish-eye lens, consider the following:

  • Blurry Images:
    • Ensure the lens is securely attached to your camera.
    • Check your camera's focus settings.
    • Clean the lens surfaces for any smudges or dust.
  • Dark Corners (Vignetting):
    • This is a common characteristic of wide-angle converter lenses.
    • Try adjusting your camera's optical zoom slightly to minimize the effect.
    • Some vignetting can be corrected in post-processing software.
  • Lens Not Attaching Properly:
    • Verify that your camera's lens has compatible filter threads.
    • Ensure no debris is obstructing the threads on either the camera or the fish-eye lens.
