1. Introduction

The Stack-On GCB-500 Steel Pistol/Ammo Cabinet is designed to provide secure storage for pistols, ammunition, and other valuables. Constructed from welded steel, this cabinet features a robust 3-point locking system for enhanced security. It is approved by the California Department of Justice for safely storing firearms. The durable baked epoxy finish ensures longevity, and pre-drilled mounting holes facilitate easy installation.

4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the security of your cabinet. The GCB-500 cabinet can be attached to a floor, wall, or on top of other compatible Stack-On gun cabinets.

4.1 Choosing a Location

• Select a discreet and secure location.
• Ensure the surface is level and capable of supporting the cabinet's weight, especially when loaded.
• Consider locations where the cabinet can be bolted to structural elements (wall studs, concrete floor).

4.2 Mounting to a Wall or Floor

1. Position the cabinet in the desired location.
2. Using the pre-drilled holes in the back or bottom of the cabinet as a guide, mark the drilling points on the wall or floor.
3. Drill pilot holes appropriate for the fastening hardware provided. For wall mounting, ensure you drill into wall studs. For concrete floors, use a masonry drill bit and appropriate anchors (not always included).
4. Secure the cabinet using the fastening hardware. Tighten all bolts firmly.

4.3 Stacking with Other Stack-On Cabinets

The GCB-500 features pre-drilled top mounting holes that align with other Stack-On pistol/ammo cabinets or larger gun cabinets. Use the provided hardware to securely attach the GCB-500 to the top of a compatible unit.

4.4 Installing the Removable Shelf

Place the removable shelf on the internal supports at the desired height. The cabinet includes a foam padded bottom for protecting contents.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Locking and Unlocking the Cabinet

1. To Unlock: Insert the key into the lock cylinder. Turn the key clockwise to disengage the locking mechanism. Pull the door open.
2. To Lock: Close the cabinet door firmly. Insert the key into the lock cylinder. Turn the key counter-clockwise until the door is securely latched. Remove the key and store it in a safe, separate location.

The cabinet features a 3-point locking system where the locking plate passes behind the steel cabinet frame at the top, bottom, and center of the door for enhanced security.

5.2 Storing Items

• Utilize the removable shelf to organize pistols, ammunition, and other supplies.
• Place heavier items on the bottom of the cabinet for stability.
• Ensure items do not obstruct the door from closing or the locking mechanism from engaging.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the exterior and interior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the epoxy finish.
• Lock Mechanism: Periodically check the lock for smooth operation. If the key becomes difficult to turn, a small amount of graphite lubricant can be applied to the key and inserted into the lock. Do not use oil-based lubricants.
• Mounting Hardware: Regularly inspect all mounting bolts and screws to ensure they remain tight and secure. Re-tighten if necessary.
• Hinge: The full-length welded and staked steel piano hinge is designed for durability and security. No specific maintenance is typically required for the hinge.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Door Will Not Close or Lock

• Check for any items inside the cabinet that might be obstructing the door's path or preventing the locking bolts from engaging.
• Ensure the cabinet is on a level surface. An uneven surface can cause the door to misalign.
• Verify that the key is fully inserted and turned correctly.

7.2 Key is Difficult to Turn

• Ensure the key is clean and free of debris.
• Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the key and insert it into the lock several times. Do not force the key.
