Setup and First Use
1. Unpacking
Carefully remove the machine from its packaging. Ensure all components are present: the coffee machine, water tank, drip tray, and power cord. Remove any protective films or packaging materials.
2. Initial Rinse Cycle
- Fill the water tank (1.8 liters capacity) with fresh tap water up to the MAX level.
- Place a container under the coffee spouts and the hot water/steam spout.
- Plug the machine into a power outlet and press the ON/OFF button. The machine will perform an automatic rinse cycle.
- Empty the containers after the cycle is complete.
3. Water Hardness Test
It is recommended to test your water hardness using the provided test strip (if included) and set the machine accordingly. This optimizes descaling intervals and machine longevity. Refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual for specific steps on setting water hardness.
Operating Instructions
1. Filling the Bean Container
Open the lid of the bean container and pour fresh coffee beans into it. The capacity is 150 grams. Ensure no ground coffee, instant coffee, or other foreign objects are placed in the bean container, as this can damage the grinder.
2. Making Espresso or Coffee
- Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean container has coffee beans.
- Place one or two cups under the coffee spouts.
- Select your desired coffee strength using the aroma control dial.
- Press the single cup or double cup button to start brewing. The machine will grind the beans, brew, and dispense the coffee.

3. Using Pre-Ground Coffee
This machine also allows the use of pre-ground coffee. Only add one scoop of pre-ground coffee to the pre-ground coffee funnel (usually located under a small lid on top of the machine) just before brewing. Do not add ground coffee directly into the bean container.
4. Making Cappuccino or Latte (Milk Frothing)
- Brew your espresso into a large cup.
- Fill a milk jug with cold milk.
- Position the steam wand into the milk.
- Turn the steam dial to the steam position. The machine will dispense steam to froth the milk.
- Once the milk is frothed to your desired consistency, turn off the steam.
- Pour the frothed milk into your espresso.

5. Adjusting Grinding Degree
The grinder has 13 adjustable settings. To adjust, use the grinding adjustment knob located inside the bean container. Turn it only when the grinder is operating. Finer grinding produces a stronger, richer coffee; coarser grinding results in a lighter coffee.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffee machine.
1. Cleaning the Brewing Unit
The brewing unit is removable for easy cleaning. To remove:
- Turn off the machine and unplug it.
- Open the service door (usually on the right side of the machine).
- Press the two red release buttons and pull the brewing unit outwards.
- Rinse the brewing unit thoroughly under running water. Do not use detergents.
- Allow it to air dry before reinserting.

2. Cleaning the Drip Tray and Grounds Container
The drip tray and grounds container should be emptied and cleaned daily. The machine will indicate when the grounds container is full. Remove, empty, and wash both components with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry before reinserting.
3. Descaling
The machine will prompt you when descaling is required. Use only De'Longhi descaler. Follow the on-screen instructions and the descaler product's instructions carefully. Descaling is crucial for maintaining machine performance and preventing damage from limescale buildup.
4. Cleaning the Milk Frother
After each use, clean the steam wand to prevent milk residue from drying. Wipe the wand with a damp cloth immediately after frothing. Periodically, disassemble the steam wand components and wash them with warm water and mild detergent. Ensure all milk residue is removed to prevent blockages.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee is not hot enough. | Cups are cold; machine not preheated. | Preheat cups with hot water; run a rinse cycle before brewing. |
| Coffee is too weak or watery. | Grinding is too coarse; insufficient coffee quantity. | Adjust grinding to a finer setting; increase coffee strength setting. |
| No coffee dispensed. | Water tank empty; brewing unit blocked; descaling needed. | Fill water tank; clean brewing unit; perform descaling. |
| Milk does not froth properly. | Steam wand blocked; milk not cold enough; wrong milk type. | Clean steam wand; use cold fresh milk; try different milk types. |
