1. Introduction
The Miller TurboLite Personal Fall Limiter is an advanced safety device designed to provide reliable fall protection. It serves as an effective alternative to traditional shock-absorbing lanyards, offering enhanced safety, mobility, and cost-efficiency for workers in various applications.
This Personal Fall Limiter (PFL) is engineered to eliminate tripping hazards due to its self-retracting lifeline. Its quick-activating braking system arrests free falls within inches, significantly reducing fall distance compared to standard lanyards. This design allows workers to maintain a safe fall distance without needing to frequently switch out equipment as fall clearance changes, thereby increasing productivity.
Key features include a compact and lightweight design, a high-strength impact-resistant nylon housing for maximum durability, and a built-in swivel to prevent lifeline twisting. It is rated for a 400-lb working load, eliminating the need for an additional shock absorber. The TurboLite PFL's are available in 6-foot and 9-foot lengths and offers multiple unit end and lanyard end connector options, all featuring a 3,600-lb gate-strength.
This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Miller TurboLite Personal Fall Limiter to ensure safe and effective use.

2. Setup and Installation
Proper installation of the Miller TurboLite Personal Fall Limiter is crucial for ensuring user safety. Always follow these guidelines:
- Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, thoroughly inspect the entire unit, including the housing, lifeline, and all connectors. Look for any signs of damage, wear, cuts, fraying, corrosion, or deformation. Ensure all labels are legible. Do not use the device if any damage is found.
- Harness Connection: Attach the unit end connector (steel carabiner) directly to the dorsal D-ring of your full-body safety harness. Ensure the carabiner gate is fully closed and locked. The built-in swivel on the unit helps prevent the lifeline from twisting during use.
- Anchorage Connection: Connect the lanyard end connector (steel locking snap hook) to a suitable anchorage point. The anchorage must be capable of supporting a minimum load of 5,000 lbs (22.2 kN) per worker attached, or meet the requirements of a qualified person. Ensure the snap hook gate is fully closed and locked.
- Clearance Requirements: Verify that there is sufficient fall clearance below the work area to prevent contact with any lower level or obstruction in the event of a fall. The TurboLite PFL's quick braking system minimizes fall distance, but adequate clearance is still essential.

3. Operating Instructions
The Miller TurboLite Personal Fall Limiter operates automatically to provide continuous fall protection. Follow these instructions for proper use:
- Normal Operation: The lifeline extends and retracts smoothly as the user moves, allowing for full mobility within the working area. The self-retracting design keeps the lifeline taut, minimizing slack and reducing the potential for tripping hazards.
- Fall Arrest: In the event of a fall, the internal braking mechanism will activate rapidly, locking the lifeline within inches. This quick arrest minimizes the fall distance and the forces exerted on the user.
- Post-Fall Procedure: If a fall occurs, the device must be immediately removed from service. Do not use it again. The unit must be inspected by a qualified person or returned to the manufacturer for evaluation and repair or replacement.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance and inspection are vital for the longevity and safe operation of your Miller TurboLite Personal Fall Limiter. While this device does not require annual factory recertification, consistent user inspection is mandatory.
- Daily Inspection: Perform a visual inspection before each use. Check for:
- Cuts, fraying, or excessive wear on the webbing lifeline.
- Cracks, deformation, or damage to the nylon housing.
- Corrosion, cracks, or deformation on all metal components (carabiners, snap hooks, swivel).
- Proper functioning of all gates and locking mechanisms on connectors.
- Smooth retraction and extension of the lifeline.
- Legibility of all product labels and markings.
- Cleaning: Clean the unit with a mild soap and water solution. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow it to air dry completely in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight or heat. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry, clean environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, corrosive chemicals, and other damaging elements.
- Post-Fall Inspection: As noted in Operating Instructions, if the device has been subjected to fall arrest forces, it must be immediately removed from service and either destroyed or returned to Miller for inspection and repair/replacement by a qualified person.
5. Troubleshooting
