4. Setup and Installation

The Moen T90331WR drain kit is designed for straightforward installation in bathtubs with 1-1/2 inch threaded drains. Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with plumbing procedures.

Required Tools (Not Included):

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare the Drain Opening: Ensure the bathtub drain opening is clean and free of debris. If replacing an old drain, remove it carefully using a tub drain removal wrench.
  2. Apply Sealant: Apply a bead of plumber's putty or silicone sealant around the underside of the drain flange (the top part of the drain that sits inside the tub).
  3. Insert Drain Body: Insert the drain body into the bathtub drain opening from above. Ensure the sealant creates a tight seal.
  4. Secure the Drain: From underneath the tub, thread the drain shoe onto the drain body. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench to secure it firmly, being careful not to overtighten. Wipe away any excess sealant.
  5. Install Overflow Cover: Attach the overflow drain cover to the bathtub's overflow opening. If converting from a 2-screw overflow to a single-screw cover, ensure you have the appropriate conversion kit (Moen part 142538).
  6. Test for Leaks: Fill the bathtub with water and check for any leaks around the drain and overflow areas. Tighten connections if necessary.

Note: Some installations may require a bath shoe gasket between the drain and the tub for optimal sealing. This gasket may need to be purchased separately.

5. Operating Instructions

The Moen T90331WR drain kit features a simple Push-N-Lock mechanism for controlling water flow.
