1. Introduction

The EZRED MS4000 Automotive Memory Saver is designed to preserve your vehicle's electronic settings and codes when the main starter battery is disconnected or being replaced. This unit prevents the loss of critical data for components such as anti-theft radios, clocks, keyless entry systems, alarms, cell phone settings, GPS memory, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) data. The MS4000 features a built-in 12-volt, 4.5 amp-hour sealed lead-acid battery and connects directly to your vehicle's OBDII port.

3. What's in the Box

4. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before using the EZRED MS4000. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and gloves, when working with vehicle batteries.
  • Ensure the vehicle's ignition is OFF before connecting or disconnecting the MS4000.
  • Do not expose the unit to rain or wet conditions.
  • Do not operate the unit if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped, or otherwise damaged.
  • Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area.
  • Ensure proper ventilation when working with vehicle batteries, as they can emit explosive gases.
  • Never short-circuit the OBDII connector.

5. Setup and Preparation

  1. Charge the MS4000: Before initial use and periodically, ensure the internal battery of the MS4000 is fully charged. Refer to Section 6 for charging instructions.
  2. Prepare the Vehicle: Turn off the vehicle's ignition and all accessories (radio, lights, etc.). Close all doors and windows.
  3. Locate OBDII Port: Identify your vehicle's OBDII diagnostic port, typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
  4. Inspect Connections: Ensure the OBDII connector on the MS4000 is clean and free from damage.

6. Charging the Internal Battery

The MS4000 has a built-in charger for its internal 12V, 4.5Ah sealed lead-acid battery. It is recommended to fully charge the unit before each use to ensure maximum memory retention capability.

  1. Locate the charging port on the side of the MS4000 unit.
  2. Connect the appropriate AC power cord (not included in all packages, check product contents) to the charging port and then to a standard wall outlet.
  3. The Left LED indicator will illuminate RED, indicating that the unit is charging.
  4. When the Left LED turns GREEN, the internal battery is fully charged.
  5. Disconnect the unit from the power outlet once charging is complete.

7. Operating Instructions: Preserving Vehicle Memory

Follow these steps to use the MS4000 to maintain vehicle memory during a battery change:

  1. Ensure the MS4000's internal battery is fully charged (Green LED on the charging indicator).
  2. With the vehicle's ignition OFF and all accessories off, plug the MS4000's OBDII connector into the vehicle's OBDII port.
  3. Once connected, the Green LED (Circuit Indicator) on the MS4000 should illuminate, indicating a successful connection to the vehicle's electrical circuit.
  4. If the Amber LED (Low Battery Indicator) illuminates, the MS4000's internal battery voltage is 11.6 volts or lower, and it requires charging soon. It is recommended to charge the unit before proceeding with a battery change if the Amber LED is on.
  5. With the Green LED illuminated, you can now safely disconnect and replace the vehicle's starter battery. The MS4000 will supply power to maintain the vehicle's memory.
  6. After installing the new vehicle battery and reconnecting its terminals, remove the MS4000's OBDII connector from the vehicle's port.
  7. Verify that all vehicle settings (radio presets, clock, etc.) have been retained.

8. LED Indicators

  • Left LED (Charging Indicator):
    • RED: Internal battery is charging.
    • GREEN: Internal battery is fully charged.
  • Middle LED (Circuit Indicator):
    • GREEN: Indicates a successful connection to the vehicle's electrical circuit.
  • Right LED (Low Battery Indicator):
    • AMBER: Indicates the internal battery voltage is 11.6 volts or lower, requiring charging soon.

9. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the MS4000 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: For optimal performance and longevity of the internal battery, recharge the unit every 3-6 months, even if not in use.
  • Circuit Breaker: The unit is protected by a 4 amp circuit breaker. If the unit stops functioning, check the circuit breaker. To reset, press the button on the circuit breaker.

10. Troubleshooting
