Follow these steps for a smooth installation of your new Schlage handleset. A screwdriver is the only tool typically required.
1. Prepare the Door
Ensure your door has standard preparations. The handleset is designed to fit standard doors with 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset and a door thickness range of 1-5/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The adjustable throughbolt allows for installation without drilling additional holes.

3. Install the Exterior Handleset
Position the exterior handleset on the door. The self-aligning screw holes simplify this step. Ensure the spindle passes through the latch mechanism.
4. Install the Interior Knob
Attach the interior Georgian knob, ensuring it engages correctly with the spindle and the exterior handleset. Secure with the provided screws.
5. Final Adjustments
Test the handleset operation to ensure smooth latching and unlocking. The universal handing allows it to work with both right and left-handed doors.
Operating Instructions
Exterior Operation
To open the door from the exterior, depress the thumb-press on the handleset grip. This retracts the latch bolt, allowing the door to open. If a deadbolt is installed (sold separately), it must be unlocked first.
Interior Operation
From the interior, turn the Georgian knob to retract the latch bolt and open the door. This handleset is a passage function, meaning the interior knob does not lock.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Schlage handleset, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Clean the handleset regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a silicone-based lubricant to the latch mechanism and internal moving parts to ensure smooth operation. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
- Inspection: Routinely check all screws and fasteners to ensure they are tight. Tighten any loose components to prevent wear and tear.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your handleset, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Sticking Latch: If the latch bolt is sticking, try lubricating the mechanism as described in the Maintenance section. Check for any obstructions in the strike plate.
- Loose Handle: If the handle feels loose, check and tighten all mounting screws.
- Difficulty Turning Knob/Thumb-Press: Ensure no components are misaligned or obstructed. Re-check installation steps if the issue persists.
