Eltako EVA12-32A AC Current Meter User Manual

Model: EVA12-32A

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of the Eltako EVA12-32A AC Current Meter. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Installation and maintenance of this device should only be performed by a qualified electrician. Incorrect installation can lead to electric shock, fire, or damage to the device and other equipment.

  • Always disconnect power before installing or servicing the meter.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and comply with local electrical codes.
  • Do not exceed the specified current and voltage ratings of the device.
  • The device is designed for indoor use in dry environments.

3. Product Overview

The Eltako EVA12-32A is an AC current meter designed for DIN rail mounting. It measures active energy consumption and displays it on an integrated screen. The device stores consumption data in non-volatile memory.

Key Features:

  • Energy consumption display with integrated screen.
  • Measures active energy as an AC current meter.
  • Data stored in non-volatile memory.
  • Low standby loss: only 0.5 W.
  • Designed for DIN rail mounting.

4. Installation

The Eltako EVA12-32A is designed for easy mounting on a DIN rail within an electrical panel. It is strongly recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Installation Steps:

  1. Power Disconnection: Before starting, ensure the main power supply to the electrical panel is completely disconnected. Verify with a voltage tester.
  2. Mounting: Snap the meter onto the DIN rail in the desired position.
  3. Wiring: Connect the phase (L) and neutral (N) wires according to the markings on the device.
    • The terminals labeled L are for the input and output of the phase wire. The device measures current flowing through this connection. Ensure the cross-section of these wires is equal to or greater than the existing phase cable in the electrical panel.
    • The terminal labeled N is for the neutral connection, which powers the meter. A smaller cross-section cable (e.g., 1.5mm²) can be used for this connection.
    • Maximum cable size without terminals is 6mm². Note that the cable insertion depth is relatively small.
  4. Secure Connections: Tighten all terminal screws firmly to prevent loose connections, which can cause overheating or malfunction.
  5. Power Restoration: Once all connections are secure and verified, restore power to the electrical panel.

5. Operation

After successful installation and power-up, the Eltako EVA12-32A will begin measuring and displaying energy consumption.

Display and Navigation:

  • The integrated screen displays various parameters, including active energy (kWh), current (A), voltage (V), and power (W).
  • Use the "MODE" and "SELECT" buttons (refer to Figure 2) to cycle through the displayed values and access historical data (e.g., hourly, daily, monthly, yearly consumption).
  • The meter stores consumption data in non-volatile memory, ensuring data retention even during power outages.

Important Notes:

  • The display is not backlit. For optimal readability, ensure the meter is installed in a well-lit area.
  • This meter is not MID-certified and therefore not approved for monetary electricity billing in Europe. It is intended for informational purposes and internal consumption monitoring.

6. Maintenance

The Eltako EVA12-32A is designed for maintenance-free operation. However, periodic checks are recommended.

  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently wipe the exterior of the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Connection Check: Periodically, and only after disconnecting power, verify that all electrical connections remain tight and free from corrosion.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Display is blankNo power supply; incorrect wiring; device malfunction.Check power supply to the meter. Verify wiring connections (L and N). If power is present and wiring is correct, the device may be faulty.
Incorrect readingsIncorrect wiring; faulty current path; device malfunction.Ensure phase (L) and neutral (N) are correctly connected. Verify that the current is flowing through the L terminals as intended.
Display difficult to readInsufficient ambient light.Relocate the meter to a brighter area or provide additional lighting. The display is not backlit.
