Model: 2183

Introduction

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens is designed for Nikon DX-format D-SLRs, offering a picture angle approximating the classic normal angle of view of a 50mm lens on a Nikon FX-format digital SLR or 35mm film camera. Its compact and lightweight design makes it ideal for various photography styles, including low-light conditions, travel, environmental portraits, and general photography. This lens features an aspherical element to minimize aberrations and Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) for enhanced light transmission and reduced flare. The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) ensures fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus operation. It also includes a rounded 7-blade diaphragm for natural-looking out-of-focus elements and can focus down to 0.3 meters (0.98 ft).

Operating the Lens

Autofocus and Manual Focus

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens features two focus modes: M/A (manual override autofocus) and M (manual focus). The M/A mode allows for instant manual switching during AF operation without needing to change settings on the camera body. To switch between modes, use the A/M switch on the lens barrel.

Using Live View (Camera Feature)

The camera's Live View function allows you to compose shots and adjust settings while viewing the scene on the LCD monitor. This is particularly useful for precise focusing and exposure control. You can change settings such as aperture (f-stop) and exposure compensation directly while in Live View, observing the changes in real-time on the screen.

Adjusting Settings (Camera Feature)

The camera body provides various controls for adjusting exposure settings. The top display panel shows current settings, allowing for quick adjustments. Use the command dials to change aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. The exposure compensation button can be used to make the image brighter or darker as needed.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. For stubborn smudges, use a small amount of lens cleaning fluid applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
  • Dust and Moisture: Keep the lens caps on when not in use. The lens features a rubber seal to minimize moisture ingression around the mount, but it is not fully waterproof. Avoid exposing the lens to excessive dust or moisture.
  • Storage: Store the lens in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided soft lens case for protection during transport.
