Setup and Installation

The Trail Tech kickstand is designed for easy installation, mounting directly to stock mounting points on compatible motorcycles. No modifications to your motorcycle are required.

  1. Prepare the Motorcycle: Ensure the motorcycle is stable and secure, preferably on a stand, to allow access to the kickstand mounting area.
  2. Locate Mounting Points: Identify the stock kickstand mounting points on your motorcycle's frame.
  3. Assemble the Kickstand: Attach the kickstand leg to the pivot plate using the pivot bolt and associated hardware. Ensure all components are correctly oriented and secured.
  4. Mount to Motorcycle: Align the assembled kickstand with the motorcycle's stock mounting points. Secure it using the provided hardware. Do not overtighten.
  5. Attach Spring: Connect the return spring(s) to ensure the kickstand retracts and deploys correctly and stays securely in position when not in use.
  6. Test Functionality: Carefully deploy and retract the kickstand several times to confirm smooth operation and secure locking in both positions. Verify that it supports the motorcycle's weight stably.

Operating Instructions

To use your Trail Tech kickstand:

  • Deploying: While dismounted, use your foot to push the kickstand leg forward until it locks into its extended position. Ensure the kickstand foot is on a stable, level surface before leaning the motorcycle.
  • Retracting: Before riding, use your foot to push the kickstand leg backward and upward until it fully retracts and secures against the motorcycle frame. The design ensures it will not interfere with rider's boots or fall down/bounce during operation.
  • Stability: The kickstand is designed to support the rider's weight. However, always ensure the motorcycle is parked on a firm, level surface to prevent accidental tipping.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life and functionality of your kickstand:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the kickstand, especially the pivot points and spring, to remove dirt, mud, and debris.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the kickstand for any signs of wear, damage, or loose hardware. Check the pivot bolt, spring, and the aluminum reinforced nylon foot for integrity.
  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of grease or lubricant to the pivot points annually or as needed to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion.
  • Tighten Hardware: Ensure all mounting hardware remains securely tightened. Do not overtighten.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your kickstand, consider the following:

  • Kickstand Does Not Stay Up: Check the return spring for proper tension and attachment. Ensure it is not stretched or damaged. Verify that the pivot points are clean and lubricated, allowing for full retraction.
  • Kickstand Feels Loose: Inspect all mounting hardware for tightness. Ensure the pivot bolt is secure. If the kickstand has excessive play, check for worn bushings or damaged components.
  • Difficulty Deploying/Retracting: Clean and lubricate the pivot points. Check for any obstructions or bent components that might hinder movement.
  • Instability When Parked: Ensure the kickstand foot is on a firm, level surface. If the ground is soft, use a kickstand pad or wider base. Verify the kickstand is fully extended and locked.
