4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Lighting the Pilot
- Ensure the manual pilot valve control knob is in the "OFF" position.
- Wait at least five (5) minutes to clear any gas.
- Turn the control knob to the "PILOT" position and push in.
- While holding the knob in, repeatedly press the Piezo Ignitor button until the pilot flame ignites.
- Continue to hold the control knob in for approximately 30-60 seconds after the pilot lights to allow the thermocouple to heat up. Release the knob; the pilot should remain lit. If it extinguishes, repeat steps 3-5.
4.2. Lighting the Main Burner
- Once the pilot is lit, turn the manual pilot valve control knob to the desired setting: "LOW", "MEDIUM", or "HIGH".
- The main burner will ignite, and flames will appear through the log set.
4.3. Turning Off the Unit
- To turn off the main burner, turn the manual pilot valve control knob to the "PILOT" position. The main burner will extinguish, but the pilot will remain lit.
- To turn off the entire unit, including the pilot, turn the control knob to the "OFF" position.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures safe and efficient operation of your log insert.
- Annual Inspection: Have a qualified service technician inspect the burner, pilot assembly, and gas connections annually.
- Cleaning Logs: Periodically, gently brush the ceramic logs with a soft brush to remove any dust or soot. Handle logs carefully as they are fragile.
- Burner Cleaning: Keep the burner ports free of dust and debris. Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment if necessary.
- Pilot Assembly: Ensure the pilot flame is strong and blue, enveloping the thermocouple. Clean any dust from the pilot assembly.
- Vent-Free Operation: As this is a vent-free unit, ensure adequate ventilation in the room during operation as per local codes and manufacturer guidelines.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Flinthill log insert, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Pilot will not light:
- Ensure gas supply is on.
- Check if the control knob is fully depressed in the "PILOT" position.
- Verify the Piezo Ignitor is sparking. If not, check for obstructions or a faulty ignitor.
- Clean the pilot assembly for any debris.
- Pilot lights but main burner does not:
- Ensure the pilot flame is strong and consistently heating the thermocouple.
- Check that the control knob is turned to a "LOW", "MEDIUM", or "HIGH" setting.
- Inspect burner ports for obstructions.
- Flames are yellow or sooty:
- This may indicate improper log placement or a dirty burner. Adjust logs or clean burner ports.
- Ensure proper air circulation in the room.
For persistent issues, contact a qualified service technician.
