5. Setup & Installation

This section guides you through the process of installing your HOUZER CHT-1800-1 sink. Ensure you have all necessary tools and materials before starting.

5.1. Tools and Materials Required

  • Safety glasses and gloves
  • Pencil or marker
  • Jigsaw or appropriate cutting tool for countertop material
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Plumber's putty or silicone sealant
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Measuring tape

5.2. Countertop Preparation

  1. Ensure your cabinet is at least 21 inches wide to accommodate the sink.
  2. Place the sink upside down on the countertop in the desired location.
  3. Carefully trace the outer edge of the sink rim onto the countertop with a pencil.
  4. Measure approximately 3/8 to 1/2 inch inward from the traced line to create the cut-out line. This inner line will be your cutting guide. Double-check all measurements before cutting.
  5. Drill pilot holes inside the cut-out line to allow for the insertion of your jigsaw blade.
  6. Carefully cut along the inner line using a jigsaw or appropriate cutting tool. Support the cut-out piece to prevent it from falling and damaging the countertop or floor.
  7. Smooth any rough edges of the cut-out.

5.3. Sink Installation

  1. Apply a bead of plumber's putty or silicone sealant around the underside of the sink rim. This creates a watertight seal between the sink and the countertop.
  2. Carefully lower the sink into the prepared countertop opening. Press down firmly to ensure good contact with the sealant.
  3. From underneath the countertop, attach the provided mounting clips to the sink rim. Tighten the screws evenly until the sink is securely fastened to the countertop. Do not overtighten.
  4. Install your chosen drain assembly into the sink's 1.5-inch drain opening according to the drain manufacturer's instructions. Ensure a watertight seal.
  5. Connect the P-trap and drain lines to the drain assembly.
  6. Install your faucet and water supply lines according to the faucet manufacturer's instructions.
  7. Once all connections are made, turn on the water supply and check for any leaks. Tighten connections as needed.

7. Maintenance & Cleaning

Proper care will help maintain the lustrous satin finish and extend the life of your stainless steel sink.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, rinse the sink thoroughly with water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots and mineral buildup.
  • Regular Cleaning: For more thorough cleaning, use a mild soap or a non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner with a soft sponge or cloth. Always rub in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid: Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals (e.g., bleach, ammonia-based cleaners) as these can scratch or damage the stainless steel finish.
  • Prevent Stains: Avoid leaving acidic foods, harsh chemicals, or metal objects in the sink for extended periods, as they can cause discoloration or rust.
