1. Introduction and Overview
The Medela Symphony Breast Pump is a hospital-grade electric breast pump designed to support mothers in initiating and maintaining their milk supply. It features innovative 2-Phase Expression Technology, which mimics a baby's natural nursing patterns for efficient and comfortable milk expression. The pump is suitable for both single and double pumping, offering flexibility based on individual needs. Its quiet operation ensures discretion, and the system includes Overflow Protection to prevent milk from entering the pumping mechanism.

5. Operating Instructions
The Medela Symphony Breast Pump offers intuitive controls for a personalized pumping experience.
- Power On: Press the power button (usually marked with a circular arrow or power symbol) to turn on the pump. The display will illuminate.
- Initiate Program (2-Phase Expression): The pump will automatically start in the stimulation phase (faster, lighter suction) to encourage milk let-down. This phase typically lasts for two minutes.
- Adjust Suction: Use the central rotary knob to increase or decrease the suction strength to your comfort level.
- Switch to Expression Phase: After two minutes, the pump will automatically switch to the expression phase (slower, deeper suction). You can manually switch to the expression phase earlier by pressing the let-down button (often marked with a milk drop symbol).
- Adjust Cycle Speed: In the expression phase, you can further adjust the cycle speed using the rotary knob.
- Power Off: Press the power button again to turn off the pump when you are finished. The pump will also automatically shut off after 30 minutes of continuous use.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and hygienic operation of your Medela Symphony Breast Pump. All parts that come into contact with breast milk are BPA-free.
- After Each Use: Disassemble all parts of the pumping kit that come into contact with breast milk (breast shields, connectors, valves, membranes, bottles). Wash these parts in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Sanitization: Sanitize parts daily by boiling them in water for 5 minutes or using a steam sterilizer.
- Drying: Allow all parts to air dry completely on a clean surface or drying rack. Avoid using cloth towels as they may leave lint.
- Pump Unit: Wipe the exterior of the pump unit with a clean, damp cloth. Do not immerse the pump unit in water or other liquids.
- Tubing: The tubing does not typically need to be cleaned unless milk or condensation is visible inside. If cleaning is necessary, wash with warm, soapy water, rinse, and hang to air dry completely before reattaching.
